Was Your Spouse A Non-Believer?

My husbands father lived in Orlando and he would go visit every year. They went to WDW once and he didn't like it! So, when my brother (a huge WDW fan...and allears.net contributor) planned a trip for the entire family in 2004, my husband was less than thrilled.

Somehow..he caught the bug...bad!! He found that childhood he missed out on and we went 5 times last year and he has already worked out all the ADRs we are hoping to get for this year. He's insane about it and if we could pay cash for DVC...we would be in there already. When we can pay cash...we will be. :thumbsup2

Its hilarious!

My DH was also apathetic about going to WDW. I had gotten the Disney Visa offer, with super cheap rooms and the free dining plan. Then, I found cheap airfare (187 roundtrip from Seattle!) and when I broke it down and told him it would be cheaper than our failure of a trip to San Jose, he gave in. However, he never expressed any excitement at all and was also one of those late night packers, showing he just didn't care. He even acted like he was just going along for the ride most of the trip, but I could tell he was enjoying it. For one, he was taking movies almost CONSTANTLY! I did mention maybe we should go to DL, and he said no, so I booked the trip for just myself, dd, and my mom. Now, he whines that he's not being included, and I just tell him, "Don't you remember saying you didn't want to go so soon?" Of course, he denies it. :lmao:

My DH is just as obsessed about WDW as I and our kids are! Though he didn't do one ounce of planning for the last trip or for this one. But he doesn't like to plan anything. he's a spur of the moment kind of guy. Me on the otherhand, I HAVE to plan EVERYTHING! But before going and once we got there, he was so excited. We all can't wait to go back.
I can't imagine my DH being a non-believer!!

As the various posts exhibit, it can go either way. My dh is a confirmed Disney-hater. Hate is a strong word, but in this case it's accurate. He gets testy when I even mention WDW. He really enjoys Universal and cruising, so it's not just vacations he doesn't like. He's never going to change, so I've stopped trying to make him. I forced him on three family Disney trips, I won't try that again unless we have a grandchild (ds is 11, so that won't be for awhile!). I have not ruled out taking ds by himself for a quick trip sometime, but it's going to be better for our family if I don't try to force dh.

By all means, do see if one trip will make him a believer -- but don't be devastated if that's not the case.

My DH was a total non-believer. Said he doesn't really like rides, hates the heat. He said he would go for the kids. He loved it. We are going back this fall. I knew bounceback existed but never even considered it because I had to talk him into going once, we had to save a long time and we really weren't vacation people (first vacation in 8 years). He comes back to the hotel room towards the end of the trip and says - I was talking to this guy at the pool and he told me about this bounceback thing - should we do that? I was floored. I have also converted my kids. They talk about it constantly, my son studies the maps, my daughter tells her teachers we are going back (in 6 months!) If we ever get any money I may look at DVC.

I too was a non-believer (mid 30's, teacher, football/basketball coach, beer-drinker). I did not want to go, complained and now am posting on this site. ILOVEDISNEY. Clean, safe and fun for everyone. Spend a couple of days at Six Flags (used to have season passes in Gurnee, IL) and you'd agree. Disney is utopia in comparison. I had to get past it in the beginning. I did and part of it was remembering - it was for my daughters (not anymore).
