Was NOT happy with Pop Century

I would be upset about the rooms not being on same floor; that's weird. I understand if they can't accomodate connecting but not near each other? I know it's super busy, but that would irritate me.

You'd think that if it's noted on the ressies that this is a preference, they would plan ahead to save connecting rooms (or at least beside each other).:confused3 (EVERY single other connecting room is occupied by someone who actually requested it? Hmm...maybe...) Or why when building the new resorts, they didn't make more (or all) connecting rooms since it's obviously something people want and what many people require. But that's just MY logic...I'm sure they designed things for a reason and they know better than me. We've been very lucky and never had a problem getting them.

This Oct will be our third year in a row at POP. I actually wanted to try the Contemporary but our daughter said no go, she likes POP, so we figured why spend the money, we will just stay longer. Sorry the OP did not enjoy it, but I guess that makes it easier for us to get a room there :rotfl:

I first just wanted to say that I wrote about MY opinion about Pop Century. No one has to agree with me. And for those who enjoyed Pop Century, I respect your opinion and I am truly glad to hear it. But please do not attack me personally because of my opinion. I did not want to or mean to upset anyone but appearently I did but I simply cannot and will not apologize for my feelings.

After some deep introspection, I have come to realize that out of the Disney Resorts, I most assuredly prefer the smaller resorts, ei Beach & Yacht, Broadwalk, AKL. Does that make me a resort snob? Maybe.

But sure as the sun rises in the east, some of you do NOT like the aforementioned resorts and I am prefectly fine with that. To each his/her own, that's what makes us who we are.

Thanks,
ClaraBug

I think about the cannot/will not apologize for your feelings part, what people have been trying to point out is that some of the things you got upset about would not have even been an issue if you made sure to check that information before going to the resort since some of that was "common knowledge" info...such as a the fridge in the room, or the full size beds, or the connecting rooms. Those things were not the fault of Pop Century and while it's ok for you to not like the resort (hey, I'm not a huge fan of values myself), I do think that it should be recognized that they are not at fault for wrongly placed assumptions.

And while I know it was frustrating with the toothpaste situation, there was also very quick resolution to that as well, one that would have saved you much frustration rather than brooding over it so that it hangs over you. In the end it was only $2...perhaps a frustrating situation for you...but don't let $2 toothpaste hang over you. :)

And finally, I think we're all resort snobs when it comes to Disney...I don't think there's anything wrong with that. :)

Gosh, I cannot wait to get to POP Century in september, to see my DD2 and my DH eyes light up at all the themeing and to experience everything disney is just so exciting. We are usually CSR people (when we were childfree!) but thought our DD2 would love POP.

Would I Love to be staying at the POLY? YOU BET!! but its not in our budget!

8 days at the happiest place on earth is priceless wherever you lay your head at night!

Dh and I had decided to stay at the Pop for our girls 1st Disney Trip. Our thinking was we needed some place to sleep and shower and we could not justify paying for a moderate or deluxe hotel when we get the same Disney "Caliber" Service at a value resort.

I will NEVER make that assumption again.

First problem - check-in
You have to stand in a line in front of a long counter, okay no big deal there, but there are at eight cast members doing check-in and they simply want to move you along. I did not get a "magical" feeling like at the other resorts we have stayed at.

Second - we asked for connecting rooms with the grandparents.
We were not even located in the same section let alone building. So we had to rearrange rooms to at least be in the same building. We were still a floor apart. The cast member said that the buildings were full and left it at that.

Third - We did a preferred room. Thinking we would have a frig or something...WRONG. Preferred basically means you look at the pool or the giant toys. I paid $10 extra dollars each night to look at a giant foose ball set. Granted it was cute but I could have used that $70 somewhere else. No frig or nothing. You do NOT want to stay facing the pool. The life guards are only there between 10AM - 11pm but the pool opens at 7am and is suppose to close at midnight. It was obvious that people did not read the rules.

The beds are only fulls and they were okay. We were exhausted at night, I could have slept on bricks and not cared. The mattresses are firm, DH loves firm mattresses and the only thing he DID like was the mattresses.

No towel animals, but nothing big to me. We called house keeping for a tube of toothpaste (we forgot), they said someone would be right up and they never showed. DH went down to the gift shop and paid $2 for a travel tube!

The walls are thin. We could hear our neighbors especially in the bathroom. You could hear whenever someone ran water/flushed/ etc...

We were very disappointed with the Pop and will never stay at a Disney Value Resort again. Maybe we were expecting too much but buyer beware....You get what you pay for! or what you don't pay for!
WOW, What a whiner.....:sad2:

Most hotels don't offer toothpaste. Were you thinking that the toothpaste woudl come with the shampoo, conditioner, and hand lotion?

:confused3 I was wondering the same thing. I've stayed at deluxes at Disney and elsewhere and have never received toothpaste. If I forget something I go to the sundry shop.

We got toothpaste on the conceirge floor at the YC- so you do get. To the OP- don't let them get to you- you have every right to expect some sort of "Disney" service no matter where you stay. We usually stay at the YC, hubby and I tried the All Star Sports for a quick weekend getaway, and it was awful. No place to relax, staff was rude and unwilling to help. Yes the rooms were small, wasn't that big a deal, but the noise- good lord the noise. Kids running amuck parents not paying any attention. There are just as many kids at the YC (mine included) but for reason they aren't allowed to run wild and just create chaos, which makes for a much nicer stay. Stick to your guns! :thumbsup2

Wow, that's amazing, only well behaved children at YC. I'll have to tell my husband from now on, no more value resorts for us. That extra $2,000.00 it will add on to our trip will be totally worth it not to have to be around those wild misbehaving value resort kids anymore. Can't believe I've never gotten this info before. Thanks!

See- you aren't allowed to share your experince without someone acting like you can't. I relayed my experience if that's not yours, well we clearly have different standards and expectations. I stayed at a value, and ran back to deluxe. You may prefer the value - all the power too you, but my time there was awful and I won't go back. I spent 3 hours at the Yacht Club my last trip and it was like a slice of heaven. :cloud9: - the OP had a bad time at the POP and shared it, and some people just can't accept it, it must be her fault that she didn't enjoy it, there is something wrong with her- well there isn't. Values are hotels, mods and deluxes are RESORTS. If I want Holiday Inn, I'll stay Holiday Inn, if not, I'm allowed.

FYI--not all of the CL provide toothpaste. I want to think we got it at the BWI and CR, but that was it. Even at the GF RPC I had to request it.

Considering that there are FOUR TIMES AS MANY ROOMS at Pop as there are at the YC, there's no way that there are as many kids at the YC. ALso the majority of guests at the values have children in tow, while the YC attracts a large number of adult business travelers. While I agree the noise level at the Values is atrocious, it's not because the children there are all poorly behaved. It's the construction of the buildings and four times as many people that create the havoc.

No one said you couldn't have an opinion about the resorts. I have stayed at a number of the WDW resorts, value and deluxe, and haven't had a bad experience at any of them. You're being responded to because of the ludicrous statement that you made about, just as many kids being at the YC as at POP and that only children at a value resort run amuck and cause chaos. When you state a blanket opinion like that, do you actually think no one on this board is going to have a differing opinion than yours? There boards are for sharing different opinons and if the OP didn't want anyone else's opinions, she shouldn't have asked.

Well stated. I couldn't agree more.

Those resorts were built before the new water saving law that mandades the toilets save waterwent into effect.
AKL and SSR have turbo toilets like the value resorts and you can hear them there.

In 1992, the US Congress kickstarted some creativity by mandating that new toilets reduce the amount of water used per flush from about 3.5 gallons down to 1.6.

Thus the Tubo toilet was invented.....
--------------------------------------------------------------
The high performance of this pressure-assisted toilet is achieved by using compressed air inside the tank, which creates a turbo-charged flushing action. This toilet also has a large water surface, which helps keep it clean and prevents stains. ....

----------------------------------------------------------

This toilet which uses less water than the old standard toilet gets the job in 1 flush.
If you know what I mean;)
---------------------------------------------------------------

I have low flow toilets in my home, and I can promise you that they make no more noise than a toilet from 1960 that's in my mom's house. There are plenty of toilet models that use minimal water and don't make a racket. My guess is that they are more expensive to purchase and install than the turbo models at the value resorts. I think it's also a severe lack of insulation between rooms that causes all the noise.

Many hotels, even the basic chain hotels, will usually provide things like toothpaste, a toothbrush, a comb, or a razor if forget yours. They're disposable cheapies, but it beats paying for it in the gift shop.

They're not routinely provided in the room, but available if you ask.

BOTH.

One trip, we had noisy neighbors who also let the 7 year old boy slam the connecting door open & closed on their side. No amount of towels or other cloth would help with that.

That's an easy fix. Stand by your door and when you hear him opening his, fling yours open, yell "BAH!" at the top of your lungs, and slam yours shut as the kid stands there, pees himself, and then starts screaming. It won't happen again. ;)

Well that certainly explains all the adults yelling form poolside to the bar back and forth, the kids running up and down the ailes of the buildings, yelling from bulding to building, and just basically being obnoxious- it's because there are more rooms. Thanks for solving the mystery for me scooby. There are a lot of kids at the YC / BC pool, and there is also a bar, still 100x more relaxing than the ASSp we stayed at. And it wasn't even the noise level that was the big issue, it was the poor service from the employees and the lack of places other than the pool or food court to relax, at least for us. But hey to each his own. Can we stop debating this now? Or is someone else going to point out something blaringly obvious? :confused3 Why every person who doesn't like values is attacked for having their own opinion is crazy- there are different levels for this reason- everyone has their own idea of what's important.

I personally did not like the POP either for multiple reasons listed here also but Im having more fun just watching this...popcorn:: popcorn::
