Ok so recently we have been looking for a house to rent and today while driving down the road we saw a cute house with a for rent sign so we pulled over and dialed the number. My husband asks the man about the house and he begins to tell us all about it. Dh then asks how much to which the guy replied 1350 a month. DH says to him ok well thank for your time. At this point the guy says to dh "what is that too much?" Dh says well its too much for us, our budget is only 1000. So then the guy starts telling my husband well it has a big barn and you could rent that out for 500. My husband says well I appreciate your time. Now the guy gets irate and says well wouldnt we all like to have it for free? DH just looked at me stunned and says to the guy, ok well you have a nice day.
I dont know did we say something insulting? I mean we didnt try to make him lower his price we just told him it wasnt in our price range.
Maybe we could have worded it differently?

rather than "Oh, well, thank you for your time", you did/said nothing wrong. Maybe the owner is getting frustrated that his house is sitting empty and he really needs the money. Or maybe you should be really glad his price was too high and he won't be your new landlord!
I tried to tell him that I worked on Wall Street all the way in NYC, had a college degree and wasn't into big parties. After awhile I just gave up and hung up on him mid-sentence.
(I just had to say it!)
You dodged a bullet!!
