Hi all

I just needed a little vent, and I figured that nobody else could possibly understand except perhaps my fellow Dis-ers.

So we are going to Disneyland in 10 days. That will make 3 trips in 3 years. So I was talking to my Dad this afternoon about him dropping us off at the airport the morning we fly out. He is more than happy to do this but then gave me the talk about "why are you going there again, there are so many other places to go". I knew I would get this talk from someone eventually, but it has still really annoyed me. I work my @ss off to provide for my family, and my kids sacrifice a lot so I can work. We love to go to Disneyland.......so what!!!! It is my money, and I will spend it however I choose, and it is my holiday and I will also spend it how I choose. No, I do not want to go to Brisbane or the Gold Coast. No I do not want to go to Thailand. No, I do not want to go anywhere else.

If it were anyone else I would have told them all this to their face but not my Dad because I love my Dad, so I just listened and tried to explain in the best way that I could. But he still didn't understand. So I come to the Dis to vent and whinge because I know you guys get it.

Anyway, if you have got this far thanks for reading and thanks for listening to my whining :flower3:

Now to get back to being excited - only 10 more sleeps :dance3:

was captured by your title "given the talk to today" and I had flash backs of the awkward conversation my mother gave me at 13....sorry had to share.

My family / friends/others in line at the shops all think I'm nuts re the trips we do....ie: "you could put it off your morgage/ face lift/ **** job"......but I love my trips, they make me who I am....so back off people.

You have every right to travel where you want with what money is rightfully yours....I think alot of the time people are either jealous or confused. Maybe your dad wanted to be invited along and feels hurt you havent included him...
because really who DOESN'T want to go to disneyland......

Anyway, enjoy the trip....lifes too short to have regrets.

I think we all have been there at one point or another! I travel with a friend, so we are 2 adults (no kids) who will be going to WDW next year for the 4th time in 9 years! I  it - we both do!! Plus next year we are adding in Disneyland and a Disney cruise!!! :rotfl: Every so often my mother gives me "the talk", and same as you - I can't say anything - I just nod my head!!
I have been fortunate enough to see a lot of the world, and I love the USA, especially Disney - deal with it, right??!! ;) It's relatively cheap, they speak the same language (mostly! ;)), and you can eat anywhere without fear of getting sick!
So, you just go and enjoy every minute of your holiday - as has been said, you have earned it and you deserve it, and if it makes you all happy, isn't that all that matters.
Have fun, and I hope you will report on your trip.

I know what you are saying we leave in 40 days for 4 time to us and our 2nd time to Disneyworld and first Disney cruise my dad said the same to me and even wants to know what i have over my wife that she keeps going back to the same places with me

*sigh* It's hard when it comes from Dad. Maybe next time, you can invite him along and see if he "gets it" from your perspective.

:flower3:  :grouphug:

Oh :grouphug: to you.

I totally understand. My mother doesn't seem to understand our love of Disney. Actually I don't think many people do! I had one mother at my son's school tell everybody what a terrible place Disneyland was, way too busy, so bad they went home early :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: WHAT!!!! Went home early ?????:eek::eek: I almost fainted at the thought :rotfl:

I don't think the adults in my family understand but the kids do. I've been telling my brother who works for QANTAS that he should take his 4 kids aged 10-16 to Disneyland but they just keep going to Thailand, Fiji, Bali. The other day I heard my niece say to her mum; "you know they're going again don't you!" in a voice that was really saying "if they are going why can't we". I just smiled to myself.

My mum just worries about the expense and I think DH's dad thinks we should have redone our kitchen first (it's next on the list).

So just go and enjoy yourselves. You've earned it.

:hug::hug: it is so sad that people feel the need to give this talk, I agree your money do what makes your family happy:hug::hug:

:dance3::dance3: 10 sleeps :dance3::dance3::dance3:

Its just the older generation. Not all but they just don't get it.

If he asked you next time just say "cause I am and its FUN" haha

If they haven't been there they just won't understand! :confused3

My mum went to LA in Nov 2010 and was spending one day at DL! No matter how much I told her she was adamant that it was one day only! (until she got there and cried her little heart out )

You don't know how good it is until you go!

My dad used to be exactly the same. Then something happened as his health has gotten worse- he watched the Samantha Brown Disney specials. Now he'd give anything to be well enough to travel. He is considering a few days in Hong Kong if I go with him as he can do dialysis there, it's not too long a flight and he'll get to visit probably the only Disney park he'll ever see.
So now, instead of complaining he encourages me to go when I can and can't wait to hear about and see the pictures from Tokyo Disney later this year!

Do you know what? others just don't understand it's that simple. Over the years I have tried explaining, made up excuses, and even lied about our Disney trips cause we've copped so much having gone 3 times in 4 years. Now I don't care. It does make it hard when you can't share your excitement about it with the ones you love/care about/work with but I guess that's why Disboards is here:hug:

WooHoo to 10 sleeps:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Luisa, I feel sad for you and your Dad:flower3:

Life is about dreams and memories and all of us lucky Disney nuts appreciate that more than anyone. I know I've never been anywhere else where you feel totally carefree :)

hey,
Sorry to hear about your dad.

On one of the cruise we did, their was a couple that went onshore each port day for dialysis, and they cruised a few times each year....its amazing how you can rearrange a condition if you truly want to do something...you control it not the other way around.
See if he can make it to Japan as Japan has awesome medical facilities,so you will have no issues finding a clinic to cater to your dad's needs.....they may even be close to the hotels at Disney. And he'll love Tokyo Disneyland and sea, especially if he's into boats and sea stuff ie: blokey things...my DH was blown away by it in 2006....
Hope your dad is feeling well...

I also think it was a dream for many parents to take their children to Disneyland in our parent's day. I remember my Nan saying she would take all her grandchildren to Disneyland if she won tattslotto.

My Mum said to me the other day that there was no way they could of afforded a trip as she was a stay at home mum with 3 children at private school. I said to her that we both work full time and it is what we choose to do - I have never asked to borrow one cent from my parents for holidays so it's our hard earned money that we choose to spend.

We are planning another trip and I think they have a hard time working out how we can afford it. Ummm no quick trips, weekends away or dinners out, we save all this into our holiday fund.

:lovestruc

Sorry to hear about your Dad :(

So you're leaving Monday? We're leaving Monday and I'm totally having trouble sleeping!

Enjoy your trip, every single moment of it :D

we get the same thing..... this will be 6 trips in 6 years, its just DH and I. We love WDW, so we go every year.

All we hear is, you're going again, isnt WDW for kids, how many times does this make, and you should go somewhere else.

We do spend a few days down the Jersey Shore over the summer; but our "big" vacation is WDW. Why does it bother people?

I know people who have time share in Aruba, they go every year, I never comment about. I know people who spend a few weeks at the shore every year, I never comment. Isnt this the same as us going to WDW every year???

They just need some magic.............

Aussiegirls, I hope you and your family have a totally awesome funnest trip ever!

And thankyou to everyone who left kind words for me and dad- you're all ace! :). (err, showing my age a bit there.....)
