Warriors LEAVEing the rest behind in October

Oh my word, can't believe it's been so long since I posted. sorry warriors!!!

So first of all well done to all W&D's, the race seemed to go well for most of you although it sound like night racing brings a whole lot of other challenges!

Lily glad you enjoyed your towpath fun! How lovely to have your DS with you too.

Carrie have a fantabulous time at WDW!!!! Wonderful to read that you had another great run, 10 miles of it too . It's amazing how much more I find myself complaining when i run with my boyfriend too :)

Amanda hope your work trip went well. My parents are on the way back from San francisco and Monterey today and have been telling me how lovely the weather's been. Hope you got chance to leave the conference rooms! You've got the best motivation in the world to get back into training- Mickey is waiting :goodvibes

Kathy well done for getting those legs moving again- I'm sure they appreciate it after such wonderful w&D workout!

Jim great swim in there- sorry your teams are not behaving. Not sure how much (if any) coverage this will get in the US but I'm a Liverpool Football Club fan and really hoping the current American owners back down and let Boston red Sox owner take us over sooner rather than later!!!!!

Jeremy those GP results are a testament to your hard work. Most people's BPs shoot up in GP surgeries so I hope that's nothing to worry about.

Stan congratulations on the annual pass- how exciting. So pleased to read that your training's going well.

Me I've had a manic couple of weeks again that culminated last week with a crazy job interview over 2 days for a lecturing position. Don't get my wrong I knew I wasn't fully qualified for this yet (as did the panel), but I was literally arms reach away from being offered it.... ergh! never mind, in a years time I'll be back with a vengence!

Also ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London on sunday, which was 6 miles past Buckingham palace, the Mall and Embankment where the London Eye is before running through 3 of the Royal parks- most of which was in Hyde Park. It was weirdly hot-20oC and beautiful blue skies so I guess pretty good conditions. Shin was taped and then snuggled in compression socks but it struggled and my calf was tight and sore for much of the second half. I got just what I needed 1/2 mile from the end, a fellow runner hit me on the back and told me I'd paced him earlier for about 5 miles and he wanted me to finish strong!!!! Overall crossed the line 1hr 52.

Haven't run since- probably a good thing!

Hi everyone sounds like everyone is doing well.

I did my last training run this morning and I "think" I'm ready for Columbus. I just keep going back and forth on race strategy, clothing, etc. In training, I did a half mile warmup walk before starting my walk/run. I had thought about doing that in the race but decided it might be better doing a shorter walk at the start line. My car is going to be parked over half a mile from the start area, but only a few feet from the finish line, so I will already have and some warmup walking. On top of that, my start corral is about .1 miles from the start line. I'm still going to walk at the start but as soon as the course thins out I'm going to start my walk/run intervals.

The weather for tomorrow looks great. Their calling for an overnight low of 43-46 degrees and a daytime high of 71. I'm planning on wearing my tech shorts and t-shirt with tech pants, and a half zip long sleeve tech shirt over it. Assuming the forecast is accurate, I'll ditch the long pants and long shirt right before the start.

As far as goals, my primary goal is to finish and not get injured. As far as time, I'm shooting for at least 3:15. I'll let everyone know how I did when I get home.

I know I'm light years behind everyone else but I just signed up for my 1st 5K on Nov 14th. It's a benefit for prostate cancer sponsored by my DH's urology group. I'm excited!!!

Amanda

Jeremy - Hope you had a GREAT day today!!!

I am trying to get really serious about Goofy training now. My DW is trying to talk me out of it (haven't registered yet, but soon). She's afraid I'll get injured. I keep telling her I'm smart enough to stop if I think thats happening. She's not convinced. Especially about the "smart" thing.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I did about 4 at a real quick (for me ) pace yesterday. Today I switched up a little bit & instead of the run 4/walk 1 thing I ran a mile and rested a minute. I worked on keeping a really comfortable pace and did about 6.8 miles total. Finished with a sub 10 minute/mile pace (about 9:50 actually, including rests). I'm going to do a long run, either monday or thursday, and will try this out on that. It was actually quite comfortable, but I have to get waaaaay out there on mileage to see if it is really gonna' work.

Oh yeah. Florida Gators lost today. Again. 1st time they have lost 3 in a row since 1988. Ugh. Bleh.

Everyone keep up the great work!! MArathon Weekend is just around the corner!!

congratulations everyone on your fall events! I'm intrested to hear what people thought of the night race for Food and Wine. (To me it was not worth 2 days out of the parks when I'm there with friends for a fun trip.) I'm finally getting back into regular 4 mile runs at least 3 times weekly. I think I need new shoes so that's on the agenda too.

I'm trying now to figure out training for the Princess while on the PC cruise- I'd love suggestions on training for a race and being "off" for 3 weeks a month before. My plan is to get most of the long miles done before Christmas and sorta go into a "holding pattern" while on the ship. Then do at least an 8-10 miler when I get home. What do you think?

Good Morning Warriors,

Pam - when we did a cruise we walked the decks everday and my DH went up to the gym early in the morning. Even though it was short walks it kept us loose.
Jeremy - hope everything went well with you this weekend.
Kate- great job with the Royal Parks 1/2
Lily - hope Ted is doing okay after the W&D

Just completed 5.29 miles. A slow walking pace of 17 but I need to build the miles to get ready for the Space Coast 1/2 Marathon. We picked up the pace closer to home and that was a 15 min pace. It was 62 degrees out and cold to us since on Thursday's walk it was 90 degrees.

Kathy

Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement but today didn't go well.

It wentFantastic (sorry for the psyc out)

I walk/ran the Columbus Half with an official time of 3:07:42, 18 sec. below my dream time and over 20min. below my Cleveland PR. My 10K split was 1:29:50 a new PR in itself.

The good: Crowd support was good even for us Back of packers.

The bands along the course were great.

Water stop were well spaced out every time I though I might like a drink, a water stop was right ahead. Didn't need hardly any of the water I took.

Well stock finish area.

The bad: (although not that bad)
massive crowds at the start.

Weaving around people with my walk/run. I went a fair amount of extra distance scoping out holes when I started running.

Individual results (from sports track import of garmin data not course miles)

Mile 1: 14:03
Mile 2: 14:11
Mile 3: 13:49
Mile 4: 14:23
Mile 5: 13:24
Mile 6: 13:32
Mile 7: 14:36 (restroom stop)
Mile 8: 14:09
Mile 9: 13:31
Mile 10:13:26
Mile 11:13:59
Mile 12:13:58
Mile 13:14:11
Mile 13.52: 6:37 (12:51 pace)

Garmin itself registered 13:26 miles Sports track registered 13.52.

I ran 5.5 miles at an average pace of 12:02
I walked 8.03 miles at an avera pace of 15:09

It was a great race.

Next stop sub-3:00

Hey everyone, Kathy forgot to mention that with low 60's temps I almost froze to death this AM. She had to unbuckle my Garmin because my fingers were not working and this is only a cool spell in OCTOBER!!! I hope January 2011 temps are not like this past year.

Two days after my half, my legs are feeling better. It only hurts going up stairs. They already have race photos and finish line video up. The finish line video is on my result page at http://www.mtecresults.com/runner/show?rid=7803&race=168 . My race photos are at, http://www.marathonfoto.com Last name Ohde Bib number 17803. Tomorrow I'm going out for my first walk/run post race.

ETA: Just got back from my first walk/run. I did 2 miles nice and slow. My running pace was about a 14:00 mile.

Congratulations johde! I'm glad the legs are "coming back" well!

I've increased my milage to 4 miles per run and the times are consistantly in the 49-50 minute range. I expect they will drop to the 47-48 minute range again eventually. Runs are feeling good, except I had to stop yesterday and fix my new shoes- I didn't get them tied quite right and could tell.

Good Morning Warriors,

I went out for our morning walk. We walked to the food store ( about 4 miles from the house), got our groceries about 6 lbs. and loaded them in DH(John) backpack. We then took the long way home., which was thru a trail and then back on the roads. This was then 6 miles. This was 10 miles the most I walked:cool1:. The pace was low 17's but that was also in the trails. We are still building the miles and after Space Coast will then work on the speed and distance. I believe I can maintain a 16 for the 1/2 at Space Coast.

Good luck to everyone

Kathy

Happy Sunday Warriors....................................

Got my 1st back-to-back LR's this week. 8.5 on Thursday & 12.5 on Friday. After a couple of nice cold baths, my legs actually felt pretty ok. Not tight or crampy at all. Goofy training has begun in earnest!!

Today a 41.5 mile ride. Hoping to get back into the "Tri" frame of mind after Marathon Weekend.

And the Florida Gators did NOT lose yesterday!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:

Of course, they did not play either....................................

Jim good look getting back into the TRIs- I've never seen someone so pleased that their team didn't play :)

Kathy I love that you combined your massive walk with a grocery shop! Well it may as well be useful time! Well done, sounds like you'll be perfectly ready come January.

Pam positive thinking will def get you back to the times you hope for! Are your new shoes feeling ok?

Jeremy hope your legs are truly back to normal now- great recovery.

me angry and grumpy that I can't do much so we'll focus on you guys! Whoop whoop for warriors

Jeremy, great pics. Had to look up bib #17803 since link didn't work for me. Great job.

Pam, I've done deck walking/running and TM on ship. That helped.

Jim, good on the tri idea. Hope it all works out for you.

Kathy, good idea about backpacking to the grocery store.

John, I'm sorry you didn't feel good about your weather. I think that to be heavenly and almost a bit too warm. Tee hee. How different we are. Oh, but I definitely do not like the cold as it was in Orlando this past January. That was horrible.

Hi everyone! Life is just tugging away. I'm pulling back. Got 12 miler in this Saturday and it was not great. Feet hurt on the way back so suffered it through. Was going to do a 13.1, but that didn't happen. I was near the car and decided it was not necessary to hurt further. Went back to the running store and exchanged my shoes for a bigger size. I think that will do the trick. We'll see.

Happy training.

Pam- good to hear the mileage is coming back.

Kathy- Congratulation on the double digits. You're really coming along nicely

Jim - Glad to hear goofy training is going well.

Kate- Hopefully you can start back up soon.

Lily - Sorry to hear you had to cut the training short. But it's better to cut it short than to get a blister in training. Hope the new shoes will help.

AFM - Everything is going well. Still keeping my miles a little low, but more than what my plan calls for in post race recovery. I started something new today to hopefully break through my mental blocks in running. I did 6 repeats of .25 mi walk/.25 mile run. I didn't need the full .25 mile walk but the paved trail I run on is marked every .5 miles so I would walk .25 miles then run to the marker. I'm trying to keep these miles slow but they still averaged about a 13:00 mile. I did much better at keeping the walks slow at a about a 17:00 mile. I'm going to do these extended run intervals once a week and over the next few weeks hopfully extend them a little.

I don't have anything firm on the calendar coming up race wise although I might do a Thanksgiving Morning race.

Some crazy THIEF came into NE Florida this week and STOLE the FALL WEATHER!!!

It was middle/upper 80's today with a heat index back into the 90's.

Ugh.

I did 4.1 miles and then walked about 1.5 back home. Hopefully the weather will break in the next few days.

Rock On Warriors!!!

Had my first session of PT in my new unit today. I can already see I'm not going to like Wednesdays. :) We do some sort of circuit training on a softball field with TOO many people and a lot of crawling on the ground. NOT FUN! :( But, I'll stick with it. Gotta pass that test in 6 weeks!!
