I was driving to work this morning and need to merge into the left lane. I reach down to hit my blinker, and there, on the stick, is an ENORMOUS green spider!!!!!!!!! Right there...ready to drop on to my lap at any moment.

Now, I am not hugely afraid of spiders, but to have one SO CLOSE and be unable to escape it made my heart rate increase. I calmly (yeah, right) made my way to the nearest parking lot, opened my car door, and flung it out with an envelope. :shudder:

Sitting in the car recovering, I happen to notice that I was sitting in the parking lot of a donut place! So I went in and bought a few. :teeth: It was a reward for not killing myself, others, or the spider! :p

:rotfl2:

If anyone deserved a donut--it was you! You showed remarkable self-control.

I don't freak out at all with bugs--but if there was a mouse in my car, I'd be causing a serious accident!

First

Second :rotfl:

Third, what is it with spiders today, the pug board I post on has a spider encounter story too.

I wonder if they ever did a study of how many accidents are actually caused by spider encounters??

I had one about the size of a quarter drop down from the headboard/windsheild going about 65 on the Highway.I also don't really get bugged by anything but it had me tring to shoo it up into the dash .Well the little bugger went back up his web and into the headboard.

I get to the next exit and go to the Giant get some spray (this is a company van filled with parts boxes) spray the headboard and about 25 smaller ones come scrambling out and I just keep spraying.I shooed as many as I could but had to kill mom and some of the others.

I was so glad to get rid of that van as I drive highways mostly for about 100 - 200 miles per day.

Yep, I would have crashed. I have serious arachnophobia.

Okay, ew, ew, EW!!!!! :crazy2:

Ok....first of all, I grew up on a farm, but am deathly afraid of spiders, and really anything that crawls....my dh makes fun of me for it.

I remember (very clearly) one day I was driving to my parents house and the road I normally took was closed for construction. I followed the detour and it brought you down a dirt road between a bean field. No biggie, this is the country. Well, I'm driving w/ the window down and all of a sudden I feel something on my shoulder. I look and this BIG ol' grasshopper is looking back at me!! :scared1: Well, needless to say, I FREAK!!! I shoo him off me, veer into the field, then back out again....the grasshopper jumps into my back window. By know I'm hyperventilating and close to tears! I finally get to the main road, pull out and stop and jump out of the car!! I would not get in the car as long as that grasshopper was in there. After about 5 or 10 minutes, a farmer in a truck goes by....stops and backs up....asks me if I need any help....after I explain the situation to him, he gets out of his truck, gets in my car and get the grasshopper and tosses it into the field. I was crying by this point! (I was 19 or 20 at the time) I thanked the guy profusely and he just smiled and said no problem....I'm sure he laughed all the way home. I know when I told my parents about it, they sure laughed.
Sorry, I don't like bugs!!

Oh, I had a spider in my apartment once.....I locked myself in the bedroom, called my DBF (now DH) and he drove 15 miles to come kill it for me!

I would have peed, screamed like a little girl, grabbed something to slap at the beast, run the car into a wall and taken out a school bus of nuns in the process.

Spiders are bad.

Hi, Mal....thought ya got rid of me, eh?????

It wasn't a spider, but I do know someone who caused an accident because of a bee, or maybe it was a wasp, I can't remember things anymore.
The lady was driving along and it flew in her window. She freaked and threw the car into park in the middle of the street and jumped out.
Oh...
Oops...
It wasn't in park, it was in reverse.
It hit the car behind her....
Which happened to be her DH.lol

Haha Mal funny. I am scared of most spiders (no other creatures just spiders though I am trying to overcome this. FYI I am not scared of tarantulas I like them.)but that green one looks ok. Well done for keeping cool dont know if I could have. A friend used to live in Australia and once found a huntsmen spider in her car. Think twice the size of an average stretched out hand.....I never see spiders in WDW guess the anoles eat them all :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

OMG! The HORROR! I can't believe all those little spiders were in the car with you!

I have almost crashed due to spiders and once a centipede. If there is a lost spider in the car I can't get back in to ride until it's been found.

I've had that same thing happen to me - driving along, and a spider comes descending from the roof of the car, dangling 2 inches in front of my face. I don't know how I did it, but I managed to get safely off the road before I attacked the thing with all my might!

I also once called hubby home from work to kill a spider. In my defense, hubby's office was only about a 3 minute drive from the house, and that spider was so huge that he took one look at it and went to the garage for a 2 x 4 to kill it with!

My friend hit a telephone pole (thank goodness she wasn't hurt) when a spider fell from her rooftop onto her dashboard.
