Warning re Tracfone

Hi, we got back from our trip on Sunday (trip report to follow at some point) and were warned by Walmart that there are problems calling/texting abroad with the Tracfone and a lot of them had been returned.

We picked up a Motorola phone for about $18 with the AT&T pay as you go and it was fine. Everytime you send or receive a text is it 5c, and it costs to receive a call. I averaged about $3.85 for a 5 minute call to the UK and there was very little difference between the cost of calling a landline or a mobile.

we have had two Tracfones for three years now and I have used them in Florida, Vermont, Washingto and Texas without any problems calling or texting both inside the USA and calling back to the UK.
In fact I have just returned from Washington where I used one of our Trac phones no problem.
Tracfones also have the same rates for all calls wether they are internall or to the UK.

DD used them a few weeks ago, with no problems whatsoever!

We bought Tracfones in August and we tried several times, without success, to make calls and send texts internationally. Really annoying when the international rate is billed as being the same as the rate within the US.

We have 2 tracfones that we use each trip, we have used both to dial and text internationally (although we did have a few issues setting one of them up)

A 5 minute international call with tracfone would have cost 5 units, which could have been as low as 50c.
