WARNING--Mickey Soap is Ivory Soap!

My dermatologist told my daughter and myself years ago never to use Ivory soap! My daughter has sensitive skin, mine was just subject to acne until about 2-3 years ago. Both of us, however, use Ivory soap on our face during the humid summertime here on Long Island (FOR its drying properties) and then switch back to Dove when the drier fall/winter comes. Neither of us have had a problem with it. After our trip to WDW in November, my husband asked me to put some Mickey soap in the shower because it reminds him of our great trip!!

Lorie :D

My mother steals the Mickey soap because it reminds her of when she use to wash us with Ivory.
In fact, as a gag christmas gift, I am giving her a multi pack of Ivory because she made such a big deal about the smell and how she loved it.

It might seem goofy to worry about the soap, but if you had a problem with Ivory soap (and it seems many people do) you'd appreciate knowing that Mickey soap is made with Ivory. Usually the times I've found it in hotel rooms its clearly labeled as Ivory. I almost bathed with it, but recognized the smell. Its not "goofy" to be warned about the soap. If one has a problem using Ivory it could ruin your entire vacation. If you've never experienced what Ivory can do to skin that is sensitive to it, don't call those of us who have a problem with Ivory "Goofy".

Not goofy at all. I have a lot of allergies to soaps and I can't recall the last time I used a bar soap in my house. I usually use gels.

No one wants their trip ruined by an allergy. I posted a similiar type of "goofy" tip last year under Orlando attractions because I wanted to make sure people knew you could not get diet soda at Medieval Times. Goofy to some, sure, but not to the many diabetics who need diet sodas and can't have regular.

No tip that helps someone is goofy. :)

I do the same thing as drumflower. I go to Bath and Body Works and get the travel size shower gel and lotion and then when I use it at home it reminds me of our trip too!! I think this trip I will be buying Juniper Breeze, Cotton Blossom or Apple(at home I use Sweet Pea)! My skin just loves the stuff! Ivory is a :sad2: :sad2:

Ok. I guess I wasn't clear in the my post with the "goofy" comment and apparently I wasn't clear in my post clarifying what I meant. :badpc:

I was not calling the tip goofy.

Are we clear now?

Wow, I never knew Ivory was so hated. I mean, obviously if you're allergic you don't like it. But I always thought of it as a perfectly fine, no-nonsense soap. I don't mind the smell-- some soaps smell too strong and perfumy to me. I sometimes switch to Dove in the winter when I'm a little dry, but Ivory is our default bath soap.

Obviously not on the face. I use a Clinique foaming cleanser there.

I sincerely doubt Ivory is going private. I have never found a store yet that didn't carry Ivory, down the the tinest convenience store. I guess you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it, but it is everywhere.

It has to be some FORM of Ivory Soap, as it turned my face BEAT RED after using it, and I itched in my "sensitive" areas...this is how I know its some type of Ivory soap. I was glad to get home and use my DOVE!

I spent the first teo vacations at WDW with a fully rashed face, until i wised up a skipped the Mickey soap. It might just be coincidence but i am very allergic to Ivory!

I'll cast my vote that it is some form of Ivory. Maybe made by the same company? DH brought tonnes back with us from our last trip but I can't stand the stuff.

Part of the 'vacation' for me is buying an expensive or nice-smelling body wash that I wouldn't usually indulge in, so I only wash my hands with Mickey Soap. My son's skin is dry so I try not to use it on him either. I don't think DH would notice if I left a bottle of Old Dutch in the shower to wash with. He's oblivious to such things so he can use the free Mickey soap and leave me with my lovely body wash. :) :)

Add me to the list of people who don't like the smell of Ivory or the Mickey soap. I don't have a problem with my skin after using either of them (and I did use the Mickey soap at WDW), but I had some excema that sure wasn't helped by the soap (I forgot that medication at home, to make matters worse).

I have a home daycare business and am required to keep Ivory in my first aid kit since I need to have a dye and perfume free soap to use. I used to use non-scented Dove in the first aid kit, but was told by my licensing person that it had a scent added (that baffled me!). The Ivory sits there unused, but at least I'm not breaking any daycare laws. :)

Last trip we went to a great store in Downtown Disney that had soaps, shampoos, bath gels etc. I can't remember the name for the life of me. I bought some great moisturizing soap there and I have trouble with soaps (HIVES) but this was GREAT. All I remember is that there is one store in Disney and one in the Mall of America........I could look up the name but it is the only store like it in DownTown Disney. DD made a great smelling candle there with wax chips.

That store is Basin. I try to get there every trip too.

I'll be staying at SOG next fall. We haven't stayed there since '98 and I don't remember what soap they had. I'll probably bring my Dove.

Yes, bring your Dove soap to SoG!!!!! They have this gel soap which is absolutely awful. It is a green apple scent, it's "gunky" (if that makes sense  ) & it doesn't lather at all. It's horrible.

Take my advice & bring your own soap to Shades. You'll be glad you did! :D

Basin has some GREAT soaps, but one of them turns my face red too. Will avoid that kind, and use the rest.

It doesn't have to be Ivory to turn your face red. It just has to have the same component of Ivory that makes your face turn red. Whatever that ingredient is that causes you trouble.

I wish I had read this post before we went to WDW last week! I detest Ivory soap. Cannnot stand the smell. I used it at the hotel for 2 days and then had enough. When we went to Super Target to pick up the special Return of the King LOTR DVD on Tuesday, I got some Irish Spring.

I have since updated our list of things to bring to include hand soap!

Okay so people don't like Ivory soap.. but if you have delicate skin why in the WORLD would anyone think that Disney soap was any better!??!
This is what I thought too. I would NEVER think to use Disney soap if I had extra sensitive skin. I have never gone to a hotel where the soap was a high quality, sensetive skin, mostiurizing soap.

What happened to the days when they had oatmeal soap. Made me hungry everytime I used it :earboy2:

I am very sad that there are only so few stores. I tried to order on line but the soap I liked isnt available on the website.DARN!!! Oh well, something to look forward too in Down Town Disney besides Giardelli....hee hee soap and chocolate!!

I used to be able to ONLY use Ivory or baby soap. Now I can use almost anything but there are a few hotel brands that are a bit strong (Dial still makes me itch). I would never expect a hotel to carry the brand that I'm not allergic to. I would bring my own if I am that sensitive. I guess they just can't win. I also liked the "goofy" comment - I took it for what it was - kind of funny. I thought I was a bit goofy for reading through this whole thread when I have a lot of research to do.
