I am SO P***ED off.

Here's the story (long version, sorry)...last year paid my $30 for membership so that I could contact my best friend from high school. It was worth every cent.

Time comes for it to be "renewed" and I don't need it any more because I've found my friend and am not interested in paying again.

Today I get a charge on my credit card for $72 from WLI Travel Values. I did some quick searching on line (because I had NO clue what this was) and found that it is connected with Classmates and the CSR I spoke with on the phone said in JANUARY I approved joining. I DON"T think so!

My $72 is being credited back to me, but it seems to be that this could be easily overlooked by somebody.

As I try to be really careful with my credit cards, this really steamed me. And the only way I could get it out of my system was by "warning" you guys.

I joined ancestry.com once and the only way to cancel your membership was to actually call them up and give them all your info and tell them you wanted to cancel...if you didn't do that, your CC would be automatically charged again. I think they do that in the hopes that people will just overlook it and I'm sure a lot of people do.

The local news had a story on something like this the other night. It seems a lot of these companies, including credit cards, share telemarketing lists. So many companies are charging credit cards and saying they contact the consumer by phone and they consumer agreed to buy it. The report basically led to the moral of ALWAYS checking your credit card bills.

gggrrrrrrrrrr..........this stuff makes me SO mad and is why I hardly ever register for anything even requiring my e-mail address...let alone a credit card number !!

Thanks for telling us. I never joined it, I just lurk around and see what I can see but other then that they will never get my credit card #

I joined a long timeago but have never noticed any extra charges on my cards....guess I was lucky..

Thanks for the warning I was thinking about joining just to get 1 email addy but thought maybe it wasn't worth it. Now I think I'll just stay registered but not a member. LOL they can pay to talk to me if they want.

I thought about joining, but the only way I'd consider it is by mailing them a check. It would not be good to have an unexpected charge come up on my debit card
