To clarify, my kids have never been to a mall Santa and never questioned it - not sure sure eve ever been to a mall around Christmas honestly. They don’t watch commercials either. We see the same local Santa at an event and he’s been there since my kids were very little. So as far as they are concerned, that’s Santa!
I just didn’t expect it to be Disney that would put the doubt in his mind (even though it will happen eventually and this was likely the last year). They are so careful not to have two Mickey’s visible that I would’ve expected more...especially because of how much we paid! Not posting to complain though, I just wanted to give others a heads up! I still remember the jerk who told me the truth in 1st grade and don’t think many people want a Christmas Disney Cruise to be how their kids find out! Seems easy to avoid if you know about it, so wanted to give others a heads up.
DD was still a believer in grade 1 or 2. Yet her twin cousins kept telling her it’s her parents who gave her those specially wrapped HoHoHo presents. Then I told her it’s Santa’s Spirit and parents are helpers of Santa too. Cousins! Jealous Cousins!! However, We attended breakfast with Santa twice when DD was a toddler but we never took pictures with Santa in the mall. She wrote to Santa once and I wrote back using special paper from the North Pole. It’s not easy to keep that secret but we would love to savour it as long as possible. I am glad OP mentioned that to the director and I hope they would be more sensitive in the future.
There's not really much they can do. There are only a limited number of entertainment crew and most of them have multiple roles. They can't change choreography or staging of the shows, so about the only thing they could do if they felt it was a huge issue is eliminate Mrs. Claus from meet and greets.
Santa can be a fun story, the same as the disney Princesses and the tooth fairy. And the fantasy and tradition of it make it whimsical and fun, even if you know it isn't real.
I mean, most grown adults know that Mickey Mouse is just a teenager in a costume, but that didn't stop them from waiting in line for 11 hours to wish him a happy birthday.
