Alltel will NOT pro-rate your last month's cell phone bill. That's right. If you switch to another carrier (let's say Verizon) on the 28th of July (for example) and your billing cycle is from July 10th through August 9th, you will be paying for 13 days of cell phone service that you will not receive.

Be forewarned.

We had kind of the same problem with Cingular. We were in St Louis, then moved to Omaha. We were told about 18 months ago when we re-upped for another two years that our phones would work in Omaha. OK, fine. So we moved to Omaha, and the phones only worked about 1/3 of the time, and were always cutting out.

So my DW calls Cingular, and they say their rep would have never told us anything like that, because -- get this -- if we move out of our area, our contracts are voided. So while DW is on the phone with them, they cancel our contracts. Early cancellation means penalty fees, and boy did they hit us hard.

DW finally complained to someone enough until they cut the fees in half. We hated to even pay that, but it was in the contract.

Lesson learned.

Hello again Parrothead1964! :wave2: We meet again. :teeth:
I am waiting for our Altell contracts to run out, which will be soon. We are still using our NE numbers.
This throws most off here as NE area code is 402 and the area code here is 407. Everyone *assumes* the number is written wrong and calls 407.
Altell is just starting to move to this area.
