I have NEVER booked a room at this hotel EVER, until just about 5 days ago, for a possible January trip. Good rate of $139/nt and booked it, until I see if any on-property come out with a good deal for January.

Today I got an email from them stating they missed my check in on Sept 11 and were charging my card for a one night stay.

WHAT?????

First - I never travel this time of year as I am too busy with my business in Sept. I haven't traveled in September for probably 15 years! I was supposed to be on the Hawaii cruise right now actually, and had to cancel due to schedule conflicts :(

The last thing on earth I would have done is make a room reservation at Disneyland for Sept 11!!!!!

So I am getting to the bottom of it - but be aware of a possible scam here - thank goodness the credit card I gave them is actually full because I put a huge deposit on an event I am planning on it just 3 days ago!!!!! Phew!!!

Just giving you all a heads up - now excuse me while I go cancel my January reservation - not giving them my business!

I agree having stayed at the Tropicana many times and they do not appear to be the type of hotel to run scams. Figures crossed this is a clerical error on either side.

When I booked at Tropicana, I received a confirmation email. Do you have that email with your January dates listed?

When I book the Tropicana I get a confirmation email just like Cal-Pie.
The times I have had to cancel a stay, I also receive a cancellation email.

I don't feel this is a SCAM. It sounds more like an error of some-kind.

The Tropicana is one of our Go-To places when staying on-site isn't in the budget.

People please don't panic. If you have questions, give the Tropicana a call.

We've stayed at the Camelot Inn multiple times (the sister property of Tropicana) and have never had any kind of problems. I bet that this was an error in the database or something. I doubt they would want to pull some kind of scam like this, especially when they get so much business. Hopefully this gets resolved for you soon.

Doesn't sound like a scam to me. If it were a scam I'd think they wouldn't have sent you an email notification.

This doesn't sound like a scam on the part of Tropicana to me, either. I wouldn't freak out, I wouldn't cancel anything.

Just contact them. Don't click on anything in that email (could be a phishing email from some other place), call them from the phone number on their website. See what's going on.

In all my time here I've never once heard anything like this about any of the motels or hotels in the Disneyland area.

We've stayed there three times in the last year with no billing issues. The staff is very helpful so I suggest calling them directly and getting it all sorted out.

This is a Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotel. I do not think it's a scam either, but a mistake. Hope that you get it all straightened out, Liz.

I had a very similar reservation problem with them. We showed up in August and they had us booked for October. A lot my bad for not calling to confirm, etc, but still seems to be a trend there.

I've never stayed at Tropicana. But I have noticed on various hotel sites, when trying to check rates my dates get changed. I may type in correct dates on first page but when I click "book" or "next" and the next page loads, it frequently reverts back to today's or tomorrow's date. It's something I've really learned to check on every page.

Yes, this happens a lot and is an issue with the booking site but nothing nefarious. It's very annoying because you'll think the rates suddenly dropped and on closer inspection you see that the dates changed, not the rates!

Glad it worked out! We are staying there the for the first time this March.

So I did over-react a bit - lol. Was having one of those days.
Turns out it went through the system as Sept 11-12!
Best part is when I re-did the reservation I found a $119 rate! :)
Okay now...
Glad things worked out and for a better rate even. We all have days like that.

The Tropicana has always been good for us.

You might want to go back and amend your title, now things have turned around for you.
You can also note an update in your first post so those seeing it for the first time know you're okay now.

Did they agree to reverse the charge to your card or do you have to pay it?

I had a moment of panic when I read the title of this thread. We're actually staying at the Tropicana right now for the first time and have been very pleased with the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the property. Glad that it turned out not to be a scam for you.

I am glad it all worked out. The Tropicana is our go-to hotel since we usually don't have the moola to shell out $300-$400 night for PPH or DLH. They treat us pretty well (except I hate that outrageous parking rate but I'll be quiet about that lol) and I think you'll enjoy your stay. Great proximity to the parks, it's quiet towards the back of the property, and the beds are comfy. Enjoy!!!
