WARNING - If you place an order from Best Buy online, there is a good chance your order will be delivered not in a plain box, but in the box that specificallly states what is enclosed. And just to make certain there is no way you can surprise anyone in your household with a surprise Christmas gift... the packing slip will be on the outside of the box, clearing stating for all to see what is enclosed. Not in an envelope, but just covered in clear plastic.

So much for surprising my DH this year.....

I called Best Buy and they said this is standard procedure for "security" purposes ???? They couldn't explain how it would me more secure to let everyone know that the box UPS left on the front step contains hundreds of dollars in electronics!

Sorry your surprise was spoiled.

Thanks for warning everyone else!

Is that something new that they're doing?

You'd think they'd have a better way!

Sorry your surprise was spoiled. :(

It's a pretty stupid policy on Best Buy's part. This is gift giving season for heavens sake.

This must be a new policy. DH and I ordered from them last year and this wasn't the policy.

That is truly the most ridiculous policy I have ever heard.

Sorry to hear your surprise was ruined. :(

The stuff I ordered from Best Buy didn't come delivered like that, but stuff I ordered from Circuit City did . . .Good thing I was the one to get the package because it listed every PC game and DVD on the outside of the box . . . .It's pretty dumb IMO . . . .I guess UPS and the USPS are very honest employees . . .

A few years back I ordered the Barbie Dream House from Wal-Mart.com and it came with the pic on the box. I think that was the last time DD believed in Santa . . .since she saw it when she got home from school . . .it was just sitting there by the front door . . . :(

I ordered from them last year, and item came in a plain box, that had the product in a slightly smaller box inside...hmmmn.

We've been doing almost all our shopping for the kids online this year (I work retail and DH is a mail man), so the warning is appreciated. We still have a couple of gamecube games to pick up. Fortunately, only my older son reads right now, and he doesn't care about the packages at the front door!

Walmart.com sends in plain boxes and there was nothing that indicated the contents. Best part was that I paid 4.00 to ship the game cube and it came FedEx in three days.

Kaybee Toys website also sends in plain boxes and it came Airborne/UPS in 4 days. No indication of what's inside, but return addy says "Toy Distrib". Figured I'd add that info for those who are interested in purchases from either place.

Guess I'll have to actually go into Best Buy to get DH's car stereo...they've got the best price, and I can't guarantee that it will arrive on my day off.

This must be new, because DS worked for Best Buy. com last year, and that is not the way they did it then.

That happened to me this year with DS' present. It wasn't Best Buy, though, just something he'd wanted for a very long time and I didn't get to see the surprised look on his face. :(

That didn't happen with me, but last year my nephew wanted a Best Buy Gift Certificate for videos and video games. I ordered it online and they sent it with NO gift card and no mention of who sent it. My brother had to start calling everyone to find out who had sent it. Not only that, it also was not even marked like a gift, just a plain envelope so my nephew did not realize what it was and opened it the week before Christmas. I won't order from them online again.

About 4 years ago we ordered one of the motorized cars from Sears and it was delivered in the Fisher Price box. Luckily, my DH put it in the garage before our DS saw it.

I wonder if this is some silly security thing?

I know Amazon still ships in an anonymous box.

I was ON TOP of the house re-hanging Christmas lights (don't ask how many times I had to redo because one after another kept going out) on Monday and hubby ws on the ground directing me and plugging in things. The UPS truck pulled up and I could see the "electric power snow shovel" box in the truck. I yelled at Gary to stay turned away from the truck, yelled down to the driver (she thought I was nuts) and asked her to put the box inside the front door. Then I scrambled over the side of the house, down the ladder and into the house where I hauled the box to the basement and covered it with a blanket. It was quite the adrenaline rush, believe me. I ordered it from Amazon.com. It is a fairly large heavy box but I wish they'd have at least tried to cover up the label or something! I'd give them a piece of my mind if I had any to spare.

I'd rather do without than deal with Best Buys. Everytime I walk into the store it's a hassle. No one knows anything. No one can help you. No one knows WHO can help you.

I give up every time.

I'll just add your complaint to my list.

Hmm...I wonder what they would have done if you specified it as a gift??

I ordered DD's Little Tykes Kitchen from Amazon and it arrived in the box that you would get if you bought it at a store. Nice big colored picture with kids playing with it on the front and back! It's rather large though so they probably didn't want to put a box inside of another box. Good thing DD was taking a nap when it arrived!

Everything else I ordered from them came in plain boxes. :)
