Warner Brothers Studio Tour before Disneyland

My wife and I are looking to make a trip to Disneyland. We also want to knock out the Warner Brothers Studio Tour. We understand these locations are not close whatsoever, and we're trying to brainstorm the best possible path. Ideally, I don't want to waste an entire day doing the tour (i.e. spend 1 night in a hotel in Burbank before going to the Disneyland area in the morning). Nor do I want to get settled in at VDL and then have to take an Uber ride to and from Burbank and get stuck in that crazy LA traffic.

My situation basically boils down to two main questions:
  1. What can we do with our luggage while doing the Warner Brothers Studio Tour?
  2. What is the best transportation from Burbank to Disneyland?

After much research and a desire to avoid being stuck in an Uber for 2.5 hours during rush hour (or worse, renting a car and doing it myself), here is what I've game planed.
  • We are coming from Milwaukee, WI. We can fly into Burbank airport via Southwest and our plane would arrive at 9:15AM.
  • From there, it's just a 10-minute Uber to WB Studios. I think a 10:30AM Tour timeslot could be doable (but would you recommend doing 11AM just in case? I'm unsure how fast you can get out of BUR compared to other airports).
  • If we spend 2 hours on the guided tour, 30 minutes for lunch, and an hour of self-guided time, that puts us getting done around 2PM-2:30PM.
  • From there, we Uber back to the Burbank airport to the Amtrak station.
  • We ride the Amtrak from BUR to Anaheim. They have a 4:15PM train that arrives in Anaheim at 5:45PM.
  • From the Anaheim station, it's a short Uber ride over to the Villas at Disneyland.
  • When we would be returning back to Milwaukee, we would fly out of SNA given its proximity to Disneyland.
By my calculations, this plan can work, but it has one fatal flaw: where do we store our luggage during the WB Studio tour?

We would likely only each have a carry-on, but it looks like you cannot bring anything bigger than a purse on the tour with you (nor would we want to haul around our luggage). I can't find any reliable data source that mentions an ability to store your luggage someplace at the start of the tour. There does not appear to be any luggage storage services at the Burbank airport either. I've heard about services like Bounce that are basically larger storage lockers you can rent, but the location near Burbank airport isn't very convenient. However, there does appear to be a Bounce location at a UPS Store closer to WB Studios, which could work?

Admittedly I'm not familiar with the area, and I'd prefer not having to Uber to a location just for luggage storage, but if that's the best choice I have, I will. I've also Googled some "luggage storage companies" in Downtown Burbank, but again, that means taking an Uber from the airport into downtown Burbank just to drop off luggage, then take the Uber to WB Studios. Then we have to Uber back to Downtown Burbank to grab our luggage (but at least we could hop on the Amtrak station here and not have to go back to the airport).

I know there is a Marriott across the street from the Burbank airport that has Bell service, but would they store our luggage if we are not guests?

Also, if anyone thinks my plan taking the Amtrak isn't ideal, let me know. I see the Uber ride out to Anaheim can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours depending on the time of the day, and if we wrapped up the tour by 3PM, we'd probably be getting stuck in traffic. The train seems like the most stress free option (and cheaper). We wouldn't be in a rush to get to Disneyland as we'd simply be checking-in and enjoying some pool time, shopping, and dining, before doing the parks the next day.

Maybe call the WB studios tour? They might have this situation happen from time to time and might have advice on where you can put your bags while on tour.

I just did a google search and the Warner Bros studio can store your luggage in a back room. Go for the 11 am tour as you can get coffee and snacks in the studio lobby.

It's been a while, but in my experience the folks running the tour are great and very helpful. I had an issue where I couldn't get a cab from the hotel and was going to be late. I called and they moved us back a bit - no problem. They were very understanding and accommodating. If you are running a little late, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Not trying to hijack your thread here - but we are planning to stay at The Courtyard or Marriott in Burbank for one night before heading to GCH for the next five nights. We have 2 goals for Burbank - the Warner Bros Studio Tour and Griffith Park Observatory.
I had no idea that we could take a train from the Burbank Airport to Anaheim! I was thinking we would need to use a car service or Uber.
Can anyone weigh in on OPs question about the train?

  • From there, we Uber back to the Burbank airport to the Amtrak station.
Minor thing - with your schedule, you don't need to go back to the airport. Burbank Downtown station is closer to WB, and would give you a few extra minutes in case you get delayed during the tour. Not every Surfliner stops there, but that 4:15pm-ish one does.

Just as an FYI - if anyone does this and is looking for more time freedom, you can also take the Metrolink from Burbank to Union and switch to the Orange County line to Anaheim. It's not quite as nice a train, but it runs more frequently, and would take roughly the same amount of time (maybe even a smidge faster).

Can anyone weigh in on OPs question about the train?
I take the Surfliner from Anaheim to Union during my travels, and I like it. When I'm switching from Disneyland to Universal, I'll usually do that and take the metro from there. (And vice-versa.) The trains are nice, it's pretty calm. The Union to Anaheim portion isn't the most scenic on the Surfliner, but it goes by pretty quickly.

From Burbank, there will be a longish stop at Union, but it's minor.

If price is not an issue you can rent a car at the airport for the day.

I don't really have any suggestions for you OP, but we are doing a trip with similar interests. Here is our plan:

We are flying to LAX, arriving in the evening, and will take a car service (which I have yet to book) to our Burbank hotel for one night. We are flying from Toronto, so we'll be up super early. We will leave our luggage at hotel bell services, have breakfast at the hotel, then take an Uber to Griffith Park. From there, we will take an Uber to the Warner Brothers area for early lunch (possibly Big Boy) and then walk to WB for a 12:30 tour.
After the tour, we will Uber to an In-N-Out close to our hotel (on my bucket list!), walk back to the hotel, then take an Uber to our Disneyland area hotel. It will be Saturday evening at this point, so I'm hoping traffic won't be nasty. I'll be booking a car service back to LAX from our DL area hotel.

I've been setting an alarm in my phone and looking at LA traffic and Uber fares for the days/times we will be traveling, and the Uber fare to DL from our Burbank hotel is around US $60. Taking a car service would help me plan things out a little better, but I don't know exactly what time we will need it, and I don't want to feel tied down to the ride, so I'll try the Uber.

Although I'm no expert, I'd contact WB directly to confirm luggage storage, and then take an Uber from WB to your DL hotel. It just seems like the easiest way. Good luck and have fun!

It's been 25 years since we visited the WB Studio Tour and Museum, but I still remember it. Very, very historic. I recall they have on display the piano from Casablanca and Jack Warner's "little black book."

I used to take Metrolink from the Burbank Airport to Cal State Northridge back in the mid-200s. The "station" there isn't a full on train-station like Union Station in Downtown LA. It's more like an outdoor lightrail station (there are machines where you can buy tickets). I also have occasionally taken Metrolink in Orange County when I've had to drop my car off to be serviced (the Tustin station is next to a tire shop and an autobody shop). Metrolink is reliable if you go that route. Union Station in Downtown LA is relatively straightforward to navigate if you are switching trains. I think Amtrak has fewer stops, but Metrolink is designed to be used as a commuter train, so it has more trains overall (I would sit in the upper level if you do take Metrolink).

The Warner Brothers studio tour is a lot of fun. In my experience, tour guides do try to tailor the stops to what the majority of the group is interested in (back in the day, my mom and I got to walk through soundstages set up for Yale and the interior of Richard and Emily Gilmore's home because the majority of the group were Gilmore Girls fans). If you go on a weekday, you may catch some filming happening, but if you go on a weekend, you may be able to see more because none of the studio is closed off for filming (on weekdays, certain streets on the backlot may be blocked off, certain sound stages won't be open, etc.),
