Everyone here was so helpful when we planned a trip in July with 9 people, 4 of whom are diabetic and one with recent knee replacement. I'm late in saying THANKS but I mean it sincerely. The suggestions about renting an outside ECV worked perfectly. Walker Mobility was very great, the scooter was a lifesaver. And suggestions on keeping Hannah's insulin cold worked great. The trip was wonderful for everyone.

So I'm back for more assistance. I'm footing the bill to take three pre-teen/teen sisters to The World early next June. They were orphaned several years ago and are being raised by my cousin and his wife (their great-aunt and uncle). They're great girls and I'm happy to treat them but my budget isn't huge. One of the girls has pku and, of course, has a restricted low protein diet. We can manage breakfast in the room or food court at the resort but I'm trying to figure out how to warm food for her at lunch. I can bring her favorites in with us (small soft-side cooler) but she usually has some starch based noodles/spaghetti and perhaps some canned green beans to round out her meal and I need to heat them up. We can do the basic cooking ahead of time in a hotpot in the room but wonder if a microwave is available in the parks for our use without a big to-do. She just turned 13 and I don't want to make a big thing out of this, just want her to have a good lunch with things she likes and is used to (food is an issue with her, something she worries about a bit.) Do the first aid stations have microwaves? Would a counter service food place inside the park heat it for us?

I know we can contact the chef at the sit down restaurants and they will prepare a meal specially for her but I can't afford many of those on my budget. I thought we'd do one nice meal and the rest would be counter service or eating from the room.

Again, I appreciate your help.

Glad we could help you and hope your next trip is as successful.

I think your best bet for warming food would be the Baby Care Centers. I know that they have facilities for warming baby food, so I assume that they must have microwaves or something similar. We have used First Aid quite a few times over the years, but I've never noticed whether or not they have microwaves. My guess would be not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask if you'd rather use First Aid than Baby Care.
Most of the counter service restaurants don't have any obvious microwaves. Even if they did, I'm quite certain that food service rules would not allow them to warm food non-commercially prepared foods.
You might want to contact the Executive Chef's Office. The number is (407) 824-5967. They might be able to give you food choices from the counter service restaurants that would fit the diet restrictions you need to work with.
Maybe someone will have some better info, but at least this gives you somewhere to start.

Thanks Sue!
You're a lifesaver as usual. I didn't even think of baby care centers. Guess because I didn't use bottles for my babies, it didn't occur to me. I think Desirea will like the idea of heating her food where the babies are, she's crazy about little ones. I'll double check with "the Mouse" but think that's one more thing off my list. I'm a little nervous about being responsible for her nutrition for about 9 days total (with driving time.) Lots of hauling food and ice in coolers but she's so excited and so are her sisters.

I'm going to request a refrig at ASMu at no cost because of her "medical needs" Her special "milk", "cheese" and some other foods have to be kept cold in addition to the one kind of juice she will use to mix with cover the awful taste of her "formula" (the aminoacid powder she must take twice a day to stay healthy.)

And the June trip with the girlies won't be my next trip, I've talked my darlin husband into a trip, just the two of us for my birthday in December so we're going to have a grown-ups only week in the World, I'm SO excited. And mostly I have the disboards folks to thank as their tips and hints got me to buy an AP which led me to AP rates at the resort and cheap airfare for the Dec trip. Yipee! I love this place.:teeth:

Thanks again and again.
