Possible but WHY? If you answer that you are an elite and need the warm-up i will get you a map to keep you safe. You do not want to go from the SSR to the start on public roadways. The road that you would use is a very dark, two lane road with no shoulder at all. It is one of the exit roads from a local Kiss and drive drop off for local runners; therefore, it is busy with bleary eyed partners. Even with my map you will be dodging golf maintenance equipment on your journey across.
If you are a regular runner like most of us, then I would ask why. It's at least a 1.75 mile walk/jog to the start using the 'safer' route to the start.
It's a preferable option to just take the bus, make use of the bag check if needed, make use of the facilities and then walk down to the start.
If you decide to take the walk/jog route understand that at least once in the last 5 years security prevented folks from coming across the OKW/SSR. Not saying that it would ever happen again, but I heard from a 'friend of a friend' that a group was turned by security.
Thank you, I hear what you are saying and completely agree. I want to take the bus, I hate running, well maybe not hate - I did sign up for this race
They are not elite runners by any stretch, it was more a question of we want to stay warm and maybe walking/jogging over will help with that.
I told them to just keep doing jumping jacks and some push-ups while waiting for the start.
Thanks again and I think I know exactly which way you are talking about, if it involves use of the golf course that is.
I've run those roads by SSR (I was staying in POR and we all know how antsy one can get before the marathon, so I decided to do an 8 mile run thursday morning). Yes POR was pretty an dall but after a few laps and a few days of doing it i decided to set off on my own. I would NEVER do it again. On the way out it was OK becuaset hings werent really moving, but once the buses/etc started up at like 6am MAN that road has no where for you to go.
I once saw someone running on World Drive just around Buena Vista Drive. Maybe he hadn't realized that World Drive was a highway and didn't have sidewalks. Pretty dangerous though.
This is not something I'd recommend. There will be plenty of time to warm up when you get to the corral areas. As mentioned, it will be very dark, and the roads around the marathon location will be busy, which makes walking or jogging to the marathon very dangerous.
<piling on>
Disney does not want people walking/running those roads. There are no sidewalks. The lighting is poor. The grass off the edge of the roadways is tall and very hard to walk in. Your feet would be soaked if there is dew. Shortcuts can have surprise canals, too boot.
