Just looking into this a bit for a kid-free weekend trip in October. First trip with our DVC points, and we may be doing 2 nights at AKL so this seems like it would be great. I see the info on the WDW page says the dress code would be the Jiko dress code - basically signature dining dress - look decent. However, it also mentions dressing appropriately for the safari. So . . . would dressing nicer for the dinner actually be a bad idea because of the safari? How did those of you who've done it and others who were there dress? I realize I'm getting ahead of myself since I haven't even discussed it with my wife yet, but it was just something I was curious about when reading the info page.

I think I wore slacks and a polo shirt for the safari and dinner. And my son and husband wore slacks (maybe khakis) and a polo shirt.

The safari is just riding around in the back of an open air truck type vehicle. So, dress for the outside weather would be appropriate, with consideration for normal signature dining dress as you mention. It was warm when we did it, I wore shorts and a nice collard shirt. My wife wore a sun dress.

Same thing we would have worn if going out for a dinner date on property. Dressy/comfortable casual.

BTW, we really liked this experience. Easily in the top 3 of anything we’ve done at WDW.

We spent a lot of time at the dinner after the safari with the guests on our tour. It was a very nice dinner (the guests who sat next to us had won a night in the Cinderella Castle suite and were headed there after the dinner). The food was excellent. The wine was very good. And the company was delightful. I don't think we left Jiko until about 8:30 or so and we started eating around 6PM.

My DS loves Disney World—- we’re doing a trip with him and his girlfriend next summer—- he’s asked me to help plan a special night, when he then will be proposing to his girlfriend—- would this tour be a good possibility for this?—-

I suppose you could check with Jiko to see if they could arrange to bring the ring w/ desert? There will be an audience as your safari mates will be with you.
I witnessed a proposal at the California Grill once, the couple was seated at the window & just as the fireworks ended (wishes) the waiter brought out 2 glasses of champagne w/ the ring while the future groom got down on one knee and proposed. We were at the next table over & I was impressed. I’m sure the groom arranged things with CG before hand, because getting a window seat during fireworks is a real challenge normally.

They will be sharing a big long table with the other guests on the safari. Unless he wants to wait until after the dinner.

We have done the Wanyama twice, once the night I proposed and also on the night of our 3rd wedding anniversary. I also convinced my parents to do it on our August trip while my sisters family and my wife and I went to MNSSHP. My wife and I enjoyed it both times we went and my parents loved the experience (they were actually the only ones who booked the night they did it so they had a private safari and dinner). One of the few experiences in Disney that I feel is not overpriced and may even be a bit underpriced for what you get.

I thought about proposing during the Wanyama but ultimately decided to do it in our room prior to the Wanyama. I know my wife would not have wanted a public proposal like that and also people spend a lot of money to do the Wanyama and I thought it would ruin everyone's experience by making it about us. There are other places around the resort he can do it either before or after like the bridge on the 5th floor over the lobby, sitting at a fire pit (theres one inside and one outside) or at any of the overlook areas.

Were you concerned when you booked (and paid) that Florida weather could be a problem?
