Wanting to dump Comcast

Ok need help here.......

We pay over $200 a month for Comcast. It's a "bundle". We have cable, internet, and phone. We need to keep our home phone, and internet. We really don't "need" all the channels we have with our cable. We have 2 HD boxes and one is a DVR. We have all pay channels and all HD channels with our bundle. To be honest, we really don't watch that much TV. I only watch my DVR recorded shows at night when I go to bed. The only thing keeping us with cable is our favorite series on Showtime, Shameless. My boys do watch Cartoon Network and Walking Dead but that is it. Can someone tell me a way to save money? I must admit, it will be hard to part with the DVR. I have been spoiled with rewind/ff/pause. When I try to eliminate all the pay channels, they hit me with "well you are saving money with the bundle" and convince me to keep it.

Any suggestions?

We have home phone thru Century Link and Internet thru Comcast. Pay about $100 a month for those two.

And then we have Netflix which is 8.75/month. We stream through our Wii.

We had about the same bill with Cox for cable, internet and phone. We ditched all the extra cable and DVR and went to basic cable for channels 3-10 (local sports and news) and kept the phone and internet with them. Our bill is now about $100. I guess we could go cheaper, but baby steps. We also have Netflix and Hulu Plus which is less than $20 a month for both to stream a lot.

I pay around $186 for our TWC bundle.
I called to see what I would save if we dropped cable and kept the phone/internet. It was about $100.
We haven't done it yet. We've bought an HD antenna to try on one of our TVs to see what kind of reception we'd get for regular TV.

We pay $149 without the home phone. The kids and I want to dump cable, but DH will not go along with it. We have Hulu.

You can buy a standalone tivo and extremely basic cable for about 20 per month.... Or an antenna and a roku box, i like my antenna/tivo/roku/chromecast setup, covers all my bases.

I would think you should be able to shave a little off each month by dropping the pay channels. And shave a little more off by just bundling the cable and internet. Sounds like you don't use the phone at all.

I have Comcast with a bundle of Blast Internet & basic digital cable with free HBO for one year at $74/month. The Blast handles streaming very well. We don't game so not sure about that. After 1 year it is still $74, just no HBO, which I don't really use anyway since Amazon Prime covers the HBO series now.

We don't get channels like FX, TNT or ABCFamily, but we do get History and H2 and Cartoon Network.

I rarely watch tv either, but it is actually less money to bundle this package than it was for internet alone.

I would call Comcast and let them know you are looking to reduce your bill, and what kind of deals they have. Just let them know your minimum requirements (maybe they have a bundle for just phone/internet?)

I do this from time to time to reduce my bill that slowly creeps up and up. They always have something to knock a few bills off.
Thanks for the reminder. I'm calling too.

We too are thinking about ditching Comcast. We just switched to their new Xfinity system, suppossedly it would save us money. We are still close to $200.00 a month and their new system sucks. We have had more problems in the last few weeks since we switched than we ever had in the past. We really want to get rid of it altogether. We already have a Roku and Netflix and are thinking about getting an external antennae. Just having a really hard time pulling the plug. Does anyone have experience with using an external antennae and if so, how has it been?

We have Comcast for internet and pay $39.95 per month inclusive of taxes. I dumped Century Link for our home phone after we bought an OOMA device. It routes our home phone calls using our internet connection. It costs $4 per month for unlimited local and long distance calls.

I've never heard of an Ooma. How much does the device cost and how does it work? Do you need Comcasts high speed Blast internet connection?

I believe they sell them at Costco and Amazon. Look at the Amazon reviews. We have been very happy with ours. It cost about $150 for the device but the breakeven point dumping out $25 Century Link home phone was only 7 - 8 months. We have the slowest speed available on Comcast internet and it works great.

Thanks so much, I'm definitely going to look into it! I also am going to look into getting an antennae for our tv's hoping between that, Netfix and Hulu we won't miss cable too much!

I have Verizon. Just called them yesterday and asked if I could reduce my bill. I cut My premium bundle to a regular one. Just lost the OWN channel, but have most others. Also reduced cable speed. The bill went from $180 to $155. Not much savings, but every bit helps. Another tip is to change the
name on the account to your husband's or another adult in the home. Then you can get the low introductory offer. (may have to pay early termination fee)

We dumped cable this past summer and went to Direct TV. Phone and internet are through Century Link. All three are bundled together. Maybe 130 a month.

No premium channels. No DVR.

Is it possible to ditch the home phone? They are kind of unnecessary if you have cell phones. I have comcast cable and internet bundle. The really fast internet (50+mps), a ton of channels, whole home DVR, HD in 3 rooms, HBO and Streampix, and after tax and everything pay $125 and we got a $100 visa when we signed up.

I will second Ooma that was brought up a couple of comments ago. I purchased our device from Woot for $99 and we pay $4 a month for the service. It's been great for us. I hated the thought of getting rid of a home phone, but hated paying $30+ a month for a phone we rarely used.

I have TWC, and my bill had gotten to $190 with just cable and internet. Earlier this year, called them saying I was going to leave for Uverse. They asked how much Uverse would be. Ended up getting my bill dropped to $130 a month and didn't lose anything that I already had.

Really going to look into this Omoo now. Do you know if they give you a new number or if you can keep your current one? Also, is there any kind of installation involved, or do you just plug it in? Any one else have good experiences with it?
