As some of you probably remember I lost a nephew to the war on terrorism in Afghanistan in February of this year. His name was Marc Small and his fiance started a foundation in his honor called Small Steps in Speech. She is a speech pathologist for young children with speech difficulties and they had discussed her starting her own practice before he left for overseas. Marc was actually the one that came up with the name because after their marriage her name would also be Small. Yesterday a 5k race was held in Lower Providence Township PA to raise money for the foundation and to remember Marc whose 30th birthday would have been August 4th. I know the pictures are not technically the best as I was just snapping away and not paying alot of attention to the technicals but I still wanted to share some of the pics of the day. The event raised over $20,000 and had an attendance of 500+. Marcs half sister and extended family did an awesome job in organizing the event. Here are just a few of the pictures I took and at the end I included a link to the entire set I posted on flickr if anyone wants to see the rest of the pics. The only lens I used yesterday was the 17-55mm 2.8 I recently acquired.
my mom and Marc's younger brother Matt before the race
Marc's half sister Megan, Matt, Marc's fiance Amanda, and Marc' mom Mary
an amazing turnout of people gathered around the registration area
the start
The winner
my brother Murray, Marc's dad, and his wife Karen after the race ... they both ran
Some of the guys from Marc's unit traveled to PA to participate, there were 7 total I think that came and ran. His unit returned home from Afghanistan in early July.
The Patriol Guard Riders also was present to show their support

It was an amazing day and an equally amazing way to remember and honor Marc.
thanks !!
