Hi - DH and I finally agree that DVC is for us. We go every year with our 2 DS and were about to take the plunge. The problem is - we didn't go this year because I changed jobs and couldn't get vacation time. What kept us sane is that we'd planned on taking a Spring 2004 trip when the kids are off school (4/1 - 4/8). Just realized the problem is that if we buy SSR now - can't use our DVC points until after SSR opens in May. We couldn't afford our April trip if we buy now and next time we'd be able to go would then would be the following year, which doesn't even seem like a real option for us. I know that we're already getting a $10 discount per point, but has anyone gotten their first years points bought back also - might they do that if requested? Any other suggestions on how would got manage this would be appreciated. Thought about renting our points, but we'd need the money now for points we couldn't supply until May and I don't think anyone would rent from us under those terms. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Isn't there an option to get points to use in place of or in combination with the cash discount per point? I would discuss your concern with your guide and see what he/she can work out that would allow you to purchase and take a trip in April.

You could also do resale at one of the other resorts and get the reduced price plus points with the right contract.

most rentals require a deposit at time of ressie (usually near 50%) and the balance 30-60 days out. That being the case, if you can find someone looking to rent in May or June it may work for you.

Good luck

I think that is correct, Pam. I would certainly try it!

I dont know if they still have this incentive but when I bought in 1999 they applied thay apllied that years points to my on property stay and I received a 2000 discount off the price.
i.e. we went in may staying at PO during this trip we took the DVC tour of BW. Our guide told us they would use that years poinths toward our current tripand reduce the price of membership. This worked great for us. Our use year is dec so we were able to plan our next trip about 6 months later and didnt feel the loss of that years points

but can't you get developers points that would allow you to stay at a Disney resort before May (as in April)...how long you can stay depends on the number of points you bought...??150points=4or5nights at the Polynesian, Contemporary etc?
Is that what you mean, Pam?

I'd call my guide too!:D Someone else had posted about the possibility about booking at a DVC, arriving, then converting the ressie to points as soon as you get there(as part of your contract)...again, many cautions, and call first (a supervisor should know)

Good luck!:Pinkbounc

You could do a resale and use the points but it will take a while from now. You could try for the developer points instead but will need to pay $89 pp to do so. You would also rent from someone then rent out your points later to compensate. You could pay cash and then bank your points for a later visit. Good luck.

Thank you for all of the wonderful suggestions! Now my husband thinks he'd rather do BCV resale anyway - decisions, decisions. So maybe that's the route we'll go. My concern is no food court or fast food - we're on the go all the time and don't do many sit down meals. That's one of the things I liked about SSR, along with the extra years. If we stay with the SSR plan, I'll definately talk to my guide to see if anything can be worked out.

Thanks again for the great responses and ideas!
