My family was picked to open Magic Kingdom last Monday, May 8, and it was an AWESOME experience. We are searching for anyone they may have taken pictures or videos of the park opening.

Is there anyone out there that was in the crowd that could send us some pictures of the park opening???

We took lots of photos and video but were unable to take any during the ceremony. We are hoping somebody out there captured the moment for us.

Hi, I can't help with pictures from that day. But when we opened Magic Kingdom last May, there was a Magic Kingdom photographer, who took about 6 photos of us during the countdown and throwing the pixie dust etc. Then after the dancers left, we took more photos in the stairwell with Minnie and Mickey. Did you get a photopass card? Check, you may have more pictures then you know. We didn't know that he was taking pictures from below the railroad platform until we got home and checked the photopass card!! We were pleasantly surprised!!

Such a magical experience one we will never forget, congrats on being chosen. :wizard:

Congrats on being selected! We were selected on Friday 5/5 as the family to open the park. :cool1: It was definitely the highlight of the trip. As Deb said, we were given a photopass by a park photographer just after the opening. She took some shots from the crowd level and then a bunch with Mickey and Minnie down the ramp of the train station. We purchased the photopass Cd for 89.00- we had 89 pics on it from our stay! Additionally, a CM took our cameras and got lots of great shots with the characters while in the back of the park and then some shots from behind of us waving and throwing the pixie dust.
We did meet a couple on Tues. 5/9 and it was their goal to take 10,000 pics during the trip. Don't know which park they were at on your special day, but I'm e-mailing her to see if perhaps your family is among her 10,000 pics. I'll keep my fingers crossed and let you know when I hear from her.

I'm giving you a BUMP! I'd love to see the pics if you ever get them. How special is that to be picked as the opening ceremony family! How cool!!! :cool1:

Hey!!! I was at the MK opening on 5/8. I unfortunately did not take any pics that morning. It was our last full day and I was holding my excited 2 yr old and sobbing like a sap. :guilty:

My 11 yr old had his camera too(nondigital) and cannot remember if he took any pictures, my mother and sister were both equipped with cameras too. So I will check into whether or not anyone happened to snap any. :teeth:

How cool to be picked!!!!

Yes, we did get a Photopass card from a photographer but there were only 6 pics on the card, all taken down the ramp after the ceremony. He didn't take one pic during the ceremony which really stinks.

I was so caught up in the hype that I never gave my camcorder to the CM that was with us. That's my screw up.

Hopefully, I'll find someone because I saw 100's of cameras in the crowd. If not, it's no big deal. We got to be in the ceremony and that was enough.

Thanks

How do you get picked for this?

Not exactly sure. We got to the park early for a breakfast reservation and two CM's (guys) walked up to my wife and kids while I was going through bag check.

It may have helped that she had on a somewhat sexy little spaghetti-strap top and one of the guys was young. That's just my opinion.

Sorry, I have no pictures to offer but I'll give you a bump back up and ask a question if you don't mind...
How early is early? Was it 20 - 30 minutes before opening or more than an hour? Just Curious. Thanks!

The park opened at 9AM and we arrived around 8:05 for a 8:15 reservation at Crystal Palace. It took about 40-45 minutes for the whole ordeal so you'd have to get there by 8AM.

BTW - What is a "bump"? I'm new to this board.

When someone posts a reply on your thread it moves it to the top of the forum, possibly giving it more attention.

Watch, here we go, to the top :thumbsup2 BUMP !

PS We were there that day, but got there a few minutes after opening.

I think we know the drill now...we (the 5/5/06 lucky family) were picked as we were passing by the two gates that were open for those that had breakfast ressies in the park. As my DH was getting our annual passes at guest services,he suggested we go get in line since it was our 9 year old's wish to get into the park first (or as close to first as possible). I noticed a few people lining up at the un-opened gates, so we were slowly heading that way and that's then a CM named Delores(my new best friend) asked if were had breakfast ressies in the park. I jokingly said no, that we were going hungry today and that I did not set up anything on purpose since we traveled the night before and did not get in till mid-night. She and 3 other CMS just made small talk when I mentioned that I probably should have known that it was going to be much easier to get my 3 kids out of bed while at Disney as opposed to going to school. She laughed and asked the kids if they wanted to make their friends back at home really jealous. They sort of just nodded and that's when she asked if we'd like to be the family that opens the park. After we assured her we would, I (or I thought I did) mouthed the words to my husband who was still over at guest services that we were opening the park. Well, I did a little more than mouth the words, because the guy at the guest services window told my husband, "I'd better hurry with your tickets because it sounds like you're opening the park today". I sort of remember jumping up and down, but I really thought I was being discreet with the news. My sister and her husband who were meeting us at the park for 8 AM came up just then and they got to go along as well. My BIL had just commented to my sister that there was a woman jumping up and down like a nut when he realized it was me! Oh well, my un-contained excitment is just part of a great memory.
In case you've never heard what happens, they take you into the park and give you a Magical Moments certificate and put you on the fire engine which takes you to Toon-town. Then 8 or 9 characters came out and we had 10 or 15 minutes with them to ourselves. They did autographs and lots of pics. A CM was assigned to take pics with our cameras and another one just to hold our belongings, (although at that moment, I did not care what happened to that diaper bag/back-pack). We then rode the train with the characters to the front of the park and waited for them to announce Mickey and the Cochran Family from Alabama! It was a once-in-a-lifetime magical few moments. We then had a few more minutes and lots more pics (by a photopass photographer) with Mickey and Minnie and fire-chief Larry. They even gave us 2 free 5 X 7s of our choice off the photopass. While I must say, we were there early in hopes and dreams of being picked, once we were so close I actually forgot about it and was just happy to be there. It was just a matter of being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. My husband is happy because he thinks I'll back off the early morning wake-up calls. Well, he's hoping, but he knows me too well and there's no chance. Mornings in the MK are my favorite! Sorry to be so long-winded, but this was just such an awesome experience for a Disney-loving family. My new wish is that you will each get to experience it or a magical moment of your own! pixiedust:
