Want to remove the mask

It seems to me that the only reason to cringe is if there is a bit of truth in the situation to the use of sheeple.

If you are doing whatever because you believe in doing it great, but peer pressure is real and can be a bit embarrassing when called out for doing something just because of peer pressure.
:crazy2: just no. It's used politically and everyone knows it. That's as far as I'll go due to Board rules.

I don't mind when others choose to wear a mask...have at it! For all eternity if you so desire!

But I won't be guilted into doing something just because most everyone else in the store is doing it.
I'm vaccinated and following current guidelines. Nuff said!
Follow the local and store guidelines.
Mind your own business.
Easy way to not feel "guilty."

This thread has many examples of mask wearing being due to peer pressure. People putting on their mask because they were the only one not wearing one and feeling pressured to pull theirs out and put it on.

The term is definitely not only used in political situations.

Not getting into it, moving along now.

Oh jeez, even farm animals are political now. *runs screaming*

(Yes, I understand the point, but we need some humor.)
Lot of people near me seem to own chickens for hobby, then there's the cows you still see alongside the road, the llamas or alpacas you see. Some days I feel like I'm just in one giant farm

Screaming and running away optional but somehow also very appropriate some days :rotfl2:

I am assuming the people you referenced are following local and store guidelines.
No one should feel anxious, nervous or guilty if the are in compliance.
The best thing those folks can do is mind their own business. Concentrate on checking the dates on the milk, rather that swiveling left to right, staring at other shoppers.
Push your basket politely, get through your list, pay, exit.
I didn't wear a mask at my Costco today. Their current guidelines state masks are not required for fully vaccinated people. I am, so I chose to shop without a mask. No problem.

I heard what the CDC said, I heard what the President said and I heard what my Governor said. Fully vaccinated people are protected and pose VERY little risk. Unvaccinated people are at risk and should take precautions.
You realize masks protect others, not you. Way things look around the world, the masks will be back soon anyway.

we don’t have to look around the world. All we have to look at is our state and local laws for masks. If people are still concern about catching covid wear a mask and a face shield. Wear 10 masks for all I care.

I agree with this

But I disagree with this. I'm not so sure about in the context of whether masks will be back or not as part of an official mandate or requirement but international travel is still largely being held back right now. Sorta depends on how much that gets going and if enough travelers are vaccinated for it to be less of a concern. One of the main reasons (aside from our own mitigation efforts like mask wearing and increasing of hand washing) the flu season was what it was was because of less international travel. Travel is something that practically speaking brings things all around.

It's why travel bans are put in place to try and help out. And right now many countries are like that still. India for instance it's probably a good thing to not have a travel coming in and out unchecked with the U.S. My father-in-law's wife's daughter just got back from Cancun in which case that whole area is on the verge of being shut down due to rising cases and the reason is largely tourism (a lot from the U.S.).

We're not in such dire straights as we were before but I don't think I would want us to stick our heads in the sand and forget about looking at how things are going elsewhere. They impact us whether we like it or not.

You keep ignoring the fact that vaccinated people pose no risk, even according to the CDC and overly-cautious Fauci. I’m so tired of hearing this “masks protect others, not you” chorus when it is no longer a valid argument. There are plenty of masks that can protect the wearer. Double up, wear a face shield, go nuts. Just don’t expect everyone else to keep wearing masks.

Way to bring in some pessimism, though. Heaven forbid should people feel GOOD about things for a while. The world as a whole is IMPROVING.

Masks protect others when the person wearing it is unvaccinated. The vaccine changed the paradigm on this.

Exactly! I can respect people view things differently, but it should at least be based in the current science. And here are two facts we know.

1) Masks protect BOTH the wearer and others.
2) Fully vaccinated people are at minimal risk to both catch and spread Covid. They are allowed to go without masks safely in almost all situations.

ETA: While I do not live in the same county, so will not speak to how things are there specifically, CA as a whole is doing great. And most of our mandates are being dropped on June 15th. TRUST that if things weren't good, that would not be happening.

You can still carry the virus if vaccinated.

I'm in California, so masks still in effect until June 15 in public places, and at this point until at least July 31 in the workplace unless CalOsha changes their mind

THIS is what the CDC says about vaccinated people as of two days ago.
  • We are still learning how well vaccines prevent you from spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 to others, even if you do not have symptoms. Early data show that vaccines help keep people with no symptoms from spreading COVID-19.

Exactly, the super majority of cases of vaccinated people that are positive are asymptotic. Therefore unlikely to spread Covid 19.
