My husband and I are looking to go Jan 16th and I would like to book however at this time the only place to even get a price for the room only is Disney. We would like to book the room, tickets and maybe dining. The TA at Disney said that they might be able to give me whole prices in a week or two. However, should I just wait until a special comes out?

I would recommend going ahead and booking your vacation package now. You can always apply a discount if/when it comes out to your existing reservation.

All you need is $200 deposit at time of booking, then final payment is due 45 days prior to arrival. There is no risk to booking now, and you can reserve the room/resort that you want now instead of possibly not getting it by waiting until a discount comes out and it's not available.

You might want to book now if you are planning Jan. 16th. That is the Sunday in the middle of MLK weekend. I've found that this weekend is generally higher in price for the resorts because of the holiday and sometimes is harder to get a discount at. While the other days should be OK, Sunday and Monday might cause you some problems. I'm a DVC member and I could not get Jan.16th at the resort I wanted and had to go on a separate waitlist for that night. I did get it a month later, but that was in June when I was allowed to book it. Also airfare may be an issue for that weekend too. I've already made all of my ADRs for that timeframe too. While the MLK weekend will be crowded, it should calm down during the week. I find most weekends remain moderately crowded regardless of the time of year now.

I'm coming from Canada so I don't think flights would be an issue. We are thinking of doing a Disney portion of a holiday before going on a cruise. We could go after which means we would be arriving on Feb. 6th.
