Just looked up the price of 4 tickets from Toronto to Orlando on Westjet(Aug 25 - Sept 3)

Get ready............ $3056.96

I think Westjet is on crack.

It's probably first class direct flight though. Not to mention that Westjet is probably the most popular flight company (nationally) right now.

I don't think it's first class. It was shown as a regular fare. It is non-stop but this is YYZ to MCO it's not overseas. I've paid that amount of money to fly to Hong Kong.

That's with taxes? Taxes will get you everytime! Flying out of YYZ sucks!

I'm pretty sure Westjet doesn't even offer first class seating (unless they've changed that recently). Actually that price doesn't surprise me too much. We looked at Westjet for our October trip and their fares were quite high and their flight times were beyond lousy.

No kidding...when we fly from Edmonton to Orlando with NWA it's about a 7 1/2 hr trip leaving at either 8 am or 2 pm (including the 1 1/2 hr layover in Minneapolis)...with Westjet it'd be a 21 hr trip leaving at 11:30 pm (including the 8 hr layover in Calgary and 6 hr layover in TO)...and Westjet's price was a lot higher than NWA...not a tough decision:laughing:

IMHO Westjet was a great airline about 8-9 yrs ago but they've really gone downhill as they've expanded :sad2:

For me it's sad that they are so local but not anywhere near affordable
I guess that's why so many Canadians fly out of Buffalo.
Wow traveling--21 hrs or 7hrs --I'd do the same as you.
Maybe we should send a few letters to West Jet:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1
Hugs Mel

That is flat out ridiculous! OMG! :scared1:

Do you live closer to Buffalo or Detroit? Spirit Air has had some really good deals out lately flying now until Nov. out of Detroit for 24 dollars each! I've seen some for as little as 8 dollars as well. We flew out of Detroit last year (and will next year as well) since it is so much cheaper then Toronto. ;)

That price was good for a laugh though :rotfl:

Yes, the price is including taxes. The tax alone is approx. $130 per ticket. Last February I paid $135 US per ticket (BUF - MCO).

I prefer flying from Buffalo but it looks like I've missed the cheapie fares for the time that I'm going. So now I'm searching everything including the dreaded YYZ. :scared1: Unless a DING comes through I'll be flying mini van airways.

I believe it! I checked from Ottawa, Aug 26-Sept 2 and it was almost $2000 for two on Westjet. We ended up on Delta from Ottawa, almost the same times for $416 each ($832). Westjet prices were nuts!

I know! Isn't it ridiculous!!?? :sad2:

I just did a search for the same dates from Calgary...

$1200.96 incl taxes for ONE adult! And with stop-overs, it's a 17 hour flight there!

Then I did a quick search on Travelocity...

$352 incl taxes on Frontier Airlines and this flight is 9.5 hours!

Unless you get a really good seat sale, who can afford to fly with them??

And there is no first class on West Jet.

We flew West Jet Calgary to Orlando DIRECT flight in October 2005 for about $600 each! Now that was NICE! In Orlando in 5.5 hours!! :cloud9:

I hear ya...flying from Edmonton it's a flight to Calgary then a 6 hr layover before that 17 hour flight...and the cost is more than our first class 7 hr flight on NWA...go fig :confused3

Gee for less a family of 4 can go a week to the carribean all inclusive! Toronto air prices are just mad it is not right !

What has happened to Westjet is a shame. Three years ago, Westjet prices were always 33% less than Air Transat or any other Canadian airline carrier.
Then when they get popular and profitable, greed takes hold and they are now the same price as everyone else flying out of Toronto. I have never flown from Detroit, but it sure looks like that is the way I will be going next time.

Those prices don't surprize me at all. We're booked on AirTran in July out of BUF to MCO non-stop and returning from FLL for 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) for just over US$1200. For the fun of it, I checked the same dates out of YYZ, coach on Air Canada. It was over $4200!!! :scared1: It's no wonder anyone near a border is driving to the States for their flights. That is just plain thievery.

You're right. Last January the 4 of us went to a 4star in the Dominican Republic for 1 week. It cost $3100 for the all inclusive.

Not surprised at all.. flying from Canada is crazy. I had looked at AC for flights in Sept. from Ottawa to MCO.. so they wanted $500 per ticket and 2 stops so a total of 8hrs flying.. no way. SO went with SW flying out of Albany, direct flight and so far they were 172 CND per seat

That's more than our entire trip! Food, airfare, park tickets, rental car, room etc etc.!
I was really hoping to find cheap flights out of London too but you had to transfer in Toronto and it was going to cost us about $2500 to do that. It's insane. We're flying out of Detroit on Spirit for $69.
