Wanna make my own Birthday Invites

My DS is turning 1 and we are having a Mickey Mouse party. I want to make my own Disney invites. I see alot of great ideas on Etsy.com, but they are really pricey. I see the ones that I like all use the Cricut machine. Is this worth getting? Can anyone tell me more about these and what a good maching to get is?

We love our Cricut.. was definitely worth getting it to us. But I do some scrapbooking (wishing I could do more, lol), and dh is a teacher so he uses it to make his bulletin boards for his classroom.

Since it's a just a one-time event you need it for at this point, what about looking around for a scrapbooking event, and making your invitations there? The hospital I work at has monthly meetings from 6-9pm where they provide a cricut for our use (plus other supplies), and you just sit around and make your pages.

I know we had a store in the area that also used to do this too, but it ended up closing up shop. You might have one in your area though.

I got my Cricut for Christmas but just took it out of the box 2 weeks ago mostly because it intimidated me. I LOVE IT!!! I am making things for my daughters 2nd bday party right now and it has been lots of fun. I made the invitations, a banner, and confetti. I plan to make a centerpiece and some other little decorations as well. I thought there was no way mine would look as good as the stuff on esty but they do and it's etsy once you figure it out.

I am thinking that I would use it for more than just his invites too! And since he is just turning 1 I have a whole bunch more Birthday's to come.

What is a good model to get?

Also am I right by saying that you can make them into any size you want? For example I see that you can get the disney program that has the Mickey Head in it. Can make them larger for invites and small enough for confiti

I have the Cricut Expression (believe there's a newer model out there now, but haven't really been looking anymore)... I originally had the original Cricut, and that one could cut shapes from 1" to 5.5".. the one I have now can cut from 0.25" to 11.5".. so yes, you can use the Disney cartridge and cut mickey heads as small as 1/4 inch and as big as almost 12 inches across (or even 23 1/2 inches if the shape is about 12"x23").

I just have to brag on my hubby. My DD#1 was a HUGE Mickey fan too for her 1st b-day. He always makes our invites in Photoshop and then we print them as 4x6 pictures.
