Wanda Parks Declares War on Disney Shanghai

It makes money on the perifory. It feeds the Disney marketing of other products in Europe. It has a tangible value by benefiting other business units.
I'd have thought that the other business units benefit the parks rather than the other way around?

If they haven't abandoned ship on Eurodisney/Disneyland Paris, Shanghai will be fine for decades to come regardless of how profitable it is.

I'm interested to see how it plays out when the Chinese government plays it up as a huge success but then to investors Disney has to be, at least a bit, more factual

You mean the same way Disneyland Paris has been?
Didn't Disney just float Paris with a few million dollars because it isn't profitable and is dragging the bottom line?
Paris has had maintenance issues and opened over budget just like Shanghai will. Now that Disney is the majority owner of Paris a lot is changing starting with maintenance. Practically everything is being painted, fixed, rebuilt, etc. they are building Disney Nature Villages which will be like a resort type area. The focus right now is on the Disneyland park there because 2017 is the 25th anniversary. The focus after 2017 will move to the studios park.

But still, regardless of the Disney history in the region, it doesn't make money
Many would say it's because it's quite expensive for the Europe area. You'll have a lot of Europeans going to WDW instead because it's cheaper for them.

There would be no "Pirates of Caribbean" Movies without the parks, there would be no "Tomorrowland" movie without EPCOT, there would be no "Country Bears" movie without the parks, etc, etc...

"Tomorrowland" movie without EPCOT
Without Epcot? Wouldn't that be without Tomorrowland in MK or DL? Nothing from Epcot was used in the movie really. They filmed at Its a Small World and Carousel of Progress (Even though CoP didn't make the movie).

Brad Bird has publicly stated that the concept of "Tomorrowland" comes from the original concept for EPCOT.

That's fine, but count the amount of movie themed rides in the parks vs the movies based on rides, and I would bet my house that the movie themes attractions are in far more abundance.

Sounds like he's mad because he has competition, now. Sorry bro, gotta' step up your game! That's business!

The movies were just one example that you are now hyper focusing on. There are many additional synergies with other Disney IP that makes DLP more relevant to the Disney bottom line.
