My dad and I were lucky enough to go to the soft openings for DA because we live close enough to the parks that we were able to pick up and go the moment we heard folks were being let in!

One thing that interested me was the interactive wands, of course, and we were walking around watching people play with the new wands. I lamented to my dad that I'd bought mine back in 2010 when WWoHP had first opened. One of the 'students' overheard me and said that if I brought my old wand to any of the wand shops it could be upgraded for $10 to a new wand.

Has anyone else done this/know how this works? Do they put a chip in your wand or give you a different one? If it is a different one do I need to bring my Ollivander's box to return the old one? I also read that the students have wands there that you can use if you don't bring one, is this true as well? That would save me the hassle of carrying mine around all day. After all, a wizard in Jurassic Park might look a tad odd.

I got a more detailed answer on my recent trip. If you have an Ollivander's wand, you can upgrade it at any Ollivander or Gregorovitch location for $10, but you must have either your receipt or your original Ollivander's box. This was too much of a hassle for me to bring in and carry around all day, so I just enjoyed watching others make magic.

I think I may be able to find my receipt if need be but I still have my old box & have no problems bringing it with me. What about the interactive map? I am wondering how you get it if you are upgrading a wand.

My daughter's wand broke in two. I still have the box. Do you think they will upgrade it?

I have Harry Potter's wand from the summer it opened in IOA. It is in the box with a $28.95 price tag on bottom of box. Is it your understanding that I can upgrade that for $10?

I had a friend of mine recently break the wand in half, they took it to Ollivanders & it was magically put back together as good as new. So i'm guessing they'll repair the damage & add the interactivity to it no problems for $10.

I went today and spoke with one of the "students" at Ollivanders about upgrading my wand and they told me they do not upgrade. She went and got her manager, Lindsay and her manager told me that from day one they were told they could not upgrade the wands. You have to buy a new one if you want the interactive wand. I did bring my wand, the box and receipt with me.

Aw... that's too bad! I was really excited about the idea of upgrading my old wand, until I read your post.

Thank you for finding out for the rest of us!

Does anyone know if the wands you get now all a interact or do you need a special interacting wand to work which might cost more. I am thinking it would be different than all the ones you see stacked in olivanders.

The ones that interact are something like $40 instead of $30. My sister lives in Orlando and bought one of the interacting wands. They do have most, if not all, of the same styles of wand in the interacting versions.

I'm trying to tell myself it's a bad idea to get my birthday wand that interacts...it's not going so well!!

Upgrades would have been nice but universal is not in the used wand business.

None of you have any idea how absolutely thrilled I am to read this thread and discover that they now have INTERACTIVE wands. This may be the single greatest thing I've ever heard.

I read that there are secret interactive spots on property you have to find on your own in Addition to the ones they will show you on a map which is available (probably with the wand or on the park map). Almost like hidden mickeys :))).
