I woke up quite early today and was feeling very weepy and nostalgic as it was little princess Matilda's 1st birthday! Sadly Matilda and Phil weren't as excited or as ready to wake up as I was. I quietly read for a bit and threw in a few 'coughs' to wake my family up but that didn't work either! I guess going around the parks in arctic conditions made them super sleepy ;-) I checked the clock and realised our breakfast sitting was going to start in 10 minutes. Never mind! I let them sleep until 8.30 and FINALLY they woke up. Here's her first photo at 1 year!

Matilda was happy and full of beans, crawling and shuffling all over the room.

We got some of her presents out (we only brought a couple with us), she loved her new Tigger and Pooh book with a big red button on it which plays 'Think think think'. We heard that song about 429 times that day. Give or take. :lmao: When we pulled out the music box she just stared at it for a bit and then started touching it and giggling when we shook it and the snow fell. She loved the music and seemed thoroughly happy with her gift.
I rang the restaurant to ask if we could still make it to breakfast and they said yes so we rushed at 10.30am to the restaurant to get some food.

At this point my whole schedule for the day was thrown but I didn't care as Matilda seemed to need a bit of time in the warmth of our room and she was so happy crawling around that I decided to say 'schedule be gone'. This is a very hard thing to do btw when you are OCD about schedules like I am! We had a very light breakfast as we were having lunch at Cafe Mickey at 1pm.
We took the bus to the Village and did a bit of shopping.

The cold didn't seem so bad with my new minnie pink leopard print earmuffs - tres chic!

I love the shops in the Village and we had a lot of fun trying on new hats:

I came very close to buying this one:

We spent an hour in the shops until the moment of truth arrived...our lunch at Cafe Mickey!!!!!! I was so excited I was actually skipping to the restaurant. There was a lovely Christmas scene just outside the restaurant and we had a quick look around the lake, it all looked so beautiful.

We were the first ones there! Our waitress was very sweet, got everything ready for Matilda and spoke with her in French. She told us the characters would be out in about 10 minutes so we settled in and I ordered a Bellini- well it was my daughter's first birthday!- I got Matilda's lunch out and fed her as quickly as possible and kept telling her that soon she'd be meeting Mickey. She could obviously sense how close Mickey was because she started saying Mickey a few times before he came out. It was so cute, like a little baby chant :)

Phil and I ordered our food, Phil had the Chicken Caesar Salad and I had the Pinocchio Pasta. For the foodies out there here are some photos of our meal:

The Pinocchio pasta was delicious and very filling, wasn't able to finish all of it (but that could be because we'd had a croissant and a pain au chocolat 90 minutes earlier ;) ). Our waitress had told us when she brought out our food that the characters were coming out now - woo hoo! Matilda was getting jumpy because she could see and sense how excited we were!!! First out was Prince John with Mickey closely behind. Matilda was SO funny when she saw Mickey.
She was definitely staring him down and looking not too impressed with him actually.

Don't know if its because he looks different from the Mickey on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or what but she was more bemused than excited when she saw him.

Prince John was very sweet with Matilda too, I think he noticed she wasn't paying Mickey much attention so he came round to offer Mickey some support:

Next came Goofy and he seemed to enjoy poking Phil in the ribs and Phil would pretend to groan and Matilda thought it was funny.

The character that Matilda loved the most was Chip. He played a lot with her, clapped when I told him it was her birthday, got down to her level and she touched his nose and rubbed his tummy, it was so special, I was teary eyed! It made the whole meal worth it

Dale came round too but she wasn't as enthused with him...very discerning child my Tilda LOL! Last to come round was a real treat for Phil because he's a HUGE Baloo fan and both times we've been to WDW he didn't get a chance to meet and get his photo taken with him. Matilda also had fun rubbing Baloo's belly. Phil managed a hug too!

Will continue the rest of this day and our last day later...

Wow, ask and it shall be given! ;) (I'm asking for 100 quid next time! :lmao: )

Loved this part, it looks like you were having a really great day. Evie and Si always sleep well at DLP and I'm there desperate to be out and about! cafe Mickey is great for character interaction, IMO that's one of DLP strong points, great character meals.

Looking forward to hearing what you did next. xxx

You have no idea how cool these are :cool1: I bought them on Main Street, I think in one of the shops or possibly one of the carts selling scarves etc outside. They are so warm and I just adored them! I got lots of admiring stares from little girls all over the park!

I also bought some black suede gloves with a small silver mickey mouse embroidered in near the wrist on each glove, love those! And Phil bought me this great dark brown corduroy bag with Winnie the Pooh on the front in brown wearing this cute plaid beret, its so adorable, he got that at the clothing store in the Village.

I'm embarrassed to say I got almost as much for myself this trip as I did for Matilda...bad mummy!! :lmao:

Everyone seems to love my Minnie pink fur earmuffs, I should have bought about 20 pairs and given them as Christmas gifts as they are so cute :yay:

Looked like a great meal at Cafe Mickey.

You really should have bought the Rattatouille hat!
