I don't want to start a debate (if I did, I'd go to the debate board) but I thought that perhaps someone on here might know the answer to this question.

My husband and I have been discussing what Walt Disney's political affiliation was. Does anyone know for sure?

yes.....Walt was associated with the 'american' party.

He always wanted to promote, suport and otherwise befriend the

concepts of and visions of, the American Dream! :)

He was a big supporter of Nixon & Reagan. The fact that they were both friends & fellow CA residents didn't hurt, but by all accounts his political leanings were very conservative.

at a museum i went to recently, they were showinga clip of walt disney testifying against the "red scourge" in the mccarthy trials. he seemed pretty...right wing in his opinions.

JEFF, Eisner tries to avoid staking out public political positions as head of a media company. However, it's no secret that he was an AVID supporter of Senator Bill Bradley in his previous run for the Democratic nomination. My sense is that the Disney Corp. lobbies BOTH the Republicans AND the Democrats:) :) :) :)

Walt did the voice work for Mickey in the early days so that makes him...Speaker of the Mouse:jester:

While he was interested in peace & harmony (he was going to allow Khruschev to visit DL), he was an American through & through & was no friend to communism. He was a major promoter of the NASA space program & there is no doubt which horse he was pulling for in the space race.

"Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world." - Walt Disney

An excerpt from the testimony of Walt Disney before the House Committee on
Un-American Activities, October 24, 1947

HAS: Do you have any people in your studio at the present time that
you believe are Communist or Fascist, employed there?

WD: No; at the present time I feel that everybody in my studio is
one-hundred-percent American.

HAS: Have you had at any time, in your opinion, in the past, have you
at any time in the past had any Communists employed at your studio?

WD: Yes; in the past I had some people that I definitely feel were Communists.

HAS: As a matter of fact, Mr. Disney, you experienced a strike at your
studio, did you not?

WD: Yes.

HAS: And is it your opinion that that strike was instituted by members
of the Communist Party to serve their purposes?

WD: Well, it proved itself so with time, and I definitely feel it was
a Communist group trying to take over my artists and they did take them over.

CHAIRMAN: Do you say they did take them over?

WD: They did take them over.

Thanks for the replies!

It was a strange question I am sure, but my husband and I were disagreeing about it so I figured someone on here would HAVE to know. :)

Thanks again!

Kathy

Ok, shmoogrrrl, now you have to tell us who picked which one.

Well, my husband thought he might be more liberal leaning, considering the route that his company has gone in the past few years and the current "head cheese's" political leanings. He also thought liberal because a good deal of "older" folks from that era tended to be liberal. However, I reasoned that he was probably conservative because of the "family values" that he seemed to have (NOTE: If you want to argue with me about who is more family friendly, conservatives or liberals) please feel free to PM me or take it to the debate board so they don't get mad at us here!) the fact that we have heard stories about how they wouldn't allow "hippy" looking people into his parks, and the general "Big Business/Capitalism" issue, that he'd be more conservative.
