Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

We had a wonderful stay at the Dolphin Nov. 8-14. We stayed on SPG points and were graciously upgraded to a resort view King room with two balconies. Loved our room, loved our view, loved the location, REALLY LOVED the pools. We feel so blessed we were able to try the Dolphin and would return without question. I am excited all the Swan and Dolphin rooms will be renovated soon. Our room was lovely enough and we enjoyed everything about it, but it will be even nicer with new decor.:thumbsup2

There are so many amazing restaurants at these hotels.

Have I mentioned how much I LOOOOOVED the pools? :)

I would have loved to go lay in the hammock or take the swan boats out on the lake, but there was no time this trip. Our girls play volleyball, they have an outdoor net and one in the pool also, they will really enjoy it when we return with them.

I was not at all impressed with the housekeeping staff. I did not find them to be friendly. We normally don't even have housekeeping come into our room, I typically just do a towel exchange out in the hallway with a housekeeper when I see them at their cart. We chose the Green Program or whatever it is called at SPG where you choose not to have housekeeping but get a $5 voucher each day instead, it worked for us. Except, they were suppose to come in after the fourth night. We spoke to someone in the hallway saying, yes, we would like them to come in. When we got back, there were new waters and coffee and our trash was emptied, but our bed was not made! How someone could come into our room and not make the bed is beyond me. Especially after I talked to her. I think there was some sort of mix up or something, but, anyway, not impressed with those staff members. Overall, not a big deal.

One thing to keep in mind when staying here is that you cannot charge to your MB. Even though our park tickets and FP+ were on our bands, you cannot charge back to the room. Not a huge deal, but this meant I needed to take out my credit card each and every time we made a purchase.

Guests should also keep in mind these are large convention hotels. There was a huge convention on-site the days we were there and that lobby and lobby bar area were packed to the gills at night and LOUD. Just a different type of feel from the other on-site hotels with lots of people dressed in their Disney attire and such, this was not that. Our actual room was very quiet, we didn't hear much at all.

Boat and bus service was pretty good except for one long boat wait and one bus incident. Loved the boat rides and talking to the different captains, etc. There is a sign at the Dolphin bus stop that states if a bus arrives full, that guests may need to wait for another bus. DH and I were first to the bus stop, then a family of four shows up, then another couple. The bus arrived, the family of four jumped in the side door and when DH and I tried to enter at the front, the bus driver apologized saying his bus was full and that we'd have to wait for the next one. I explained that we were there first and should be allowed on, not the other party. He said he was sorry. I asked if he could ask the other party to get off and let us on, and he said he couldn't ask anyone to get off the bus. I was not happy because I was sure we would miss our FP window. When the next bus arrived, I let everyone know we had been waiting the longest and that we WOULD be getting on that bus!!

Another not so funny bus experience. Our last night at MK, after MVMCP, we get on the bus, nowhere to sit, not a problem. DH and I were alllll the way to the back of the bus standing up and holding on. I was sure my backpack was super close to the person sitting in that back row bench of the bus. The entire aisle was full of people standing. It was 1:00am by this time. We arrive at the Boardwalk and the bus is about to stop. The lady behind me says....wait for it: "Excuse me, if you'll just move aside, we'll get past you, this is our stop". What???? I'm not exactly sure where she thought I was going to go and I'm not sure why she didn't think *I*, too, could be getting off at the Boardwalk. She had no idea where we were staying. It's one of those instances where you are like "did I just hear correctly?" I said to her, "yes....when everyone gets off, we will move forward, too, and let you off the bus". I am still shaking my head on that lady wondering where she thought we were going to go for her to "pass by us". Sheesh.:confused3:drive:

Anyway! I can highly recommend the Dolphin and we look forward to returning. It might be next October which would be nice so that we can once again use those pools we loved so much.:beach:
Glad you enjoyed it! How did you feel about paying the Resort Fee seeing as you stayed on SPG points?

Just booked! Swan was sold out (?) a year in advance - what's going on? So it eliminated the decision factor. Resort charge is $23 per room. I'm ok w that, pretty typical. Upgraded to the balcony rooms since it was only a few more points.

With three teens and it being New Years our choices are pretty limited, we wound up at Big River Grille, it was "eh" and pricey (hubby and I did the same thing three weeks ago, with the same feeling afterwards). I'd suggest trying to get an ADR for Beaches and Cream with kids, or head either offsite or to DTD. Will you have a car? The parking deck at DTD opened so that may alleviate some of the parking woes. There aren't many "kid friendly reasonably priced options around the Boardwalk. There's a stand that sells hot dogs, corn dogs fries. A pizza window that sells pizza by the slice or whole pies and the Bakery, which has expanded and also offers soup and sandwich options.

I can hardly complain about the $23 resort fee here when staying on SPG points. We had a huge, king room with a gorgeous view and two balconies for basically free. Given that, $23 is nothing. When you add in a parking fee, though, which many guests have, then it start becoming a bit much. We didn't have a car but we had to pay for car service to and from MCO.

I am very grateful for our points and feel blessed to be able to travel for less by using them. S&D are very nice properties in a fantastic location. I would say they are for sure one of the best redemptions. I would stay here paying out of pocket also. I LOVED those pools! Definitely worth a return visit!:thumbsup2

We're all about staying on-site, would never consider staying off-site. I hope to try many more properties in the coming years. I was glad we were able to try the Dolphin.

I just received my AllEars Weekly Newsletter. It said:
The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin is currently undergoing the largest renovation in its 25-year history. The Swan rooms will be completed in 2015. The first phase of the Dolphin Hotel room renovations will not begin until 2016, with the entire room project currently scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.

Hi, I'd like to stay in the S/D one day in December. This will just be a transition day, from LEGOLAND first then Disney World afterwards... My goal is just to do stuff around the hotel and relax, probly visit Downtown Disney (transportation from S/D to DTD?). It'll be December, so possibly cool. Travelling 2 adults 4 kids! Which would you recommend? We'd do it on SPG points so if there is a cost difference it's not really going to be a factor for us. Thank you! -mike

DTD is a great option for a transition day. The buses at S/D do travel there. Lots of shopping and great restaurants! Just be aware there is lots of construction going on there right now. It's still very enjoyable, though.

You could also walk over to Fantasia Gardens mini golf for something fun to do.

We LOVE staying at the Swan and Dolphin. It is the most convenient resort at Disney in my opinion.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but how does the 60 day advanced booking for Fastpass Plus work? I have added my reservation and my tickets to My Disney Experience and I can only book up to 30 days in advance.

The website itself even says 60 days to go.

Thanks for any help/advice!

Sorry, I don't have anything to offer for advice. I know the 30 day FP+ should magically give way to being able to book at 60 days when your time arrives. Did it open for you after your post? I hope so.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Swan/Dolphin friends.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Swan/Dolphin friends.

I just logged in a few minutes ago and was able to access my trip. Was able to book the Anna and Elsa meet and greet for my daughters!

That's great! I, for one, can't figure out the quirks of MDE. I'm glad you got what you wanted.

We can't wait to stay in the Swan and Dolphin it's my favorite resort and I can't wait for next year! Where can we take the boat to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios at Swan and Dolphin? and Happy Thanksgiving to all of Swan/Dolphin friends!

Yes, with Starbucks coffee.

If you choose the "Green" housekeeping option at checkin, where they only clean your room on the 4th day, can you request enough coffee for the days they don't come in? :)

awesome! Thank you I think that Swan and Dolphin is perfect for My mom and I!

We were green at the Swan earlier this month and I seem to recall coffee, creamer, etc all of that in the bottle with the Dasani water each day. You will, however have to request extra toiletries, we were without shampoo from arrival, thankfully I had some in my bag.

As much as you want. I drink just decaf and when I arrive, there is always several regular and one decaf. I just see the housekeeping in the hall the next morning and ask for as many as I want. They give me all I want. And then I leave a note for them as I run low and they leave plenty.

Hi, Dan! :wave2:

You don't even have to ask a housekeeper. Just a quick call from your room (I believe it's Extension 66), tell them what you need and it's brought to your room! We always get a follow-up call to make sure we did receive what we had requested! :thumbsup2

:goodvibes

I'm starting to get the WDW itch to go and would love to stay at S/D again. Looking for a good rate.
