Walmart

We have 2 in our area. I wonder why I bother going to the one closest to our home. It's dirty, messy and in need of a good attitude adjustment. The other one is much nicer, cleaner and recently remodeled. It's like night and day between the two stores.

Just the other night, I made the mistake of going to the closer one. As I'm walking out, the greeter at the exit door hands me a pass for Sam's Club. No sooner do I say I have their membership, he grabs the slip out of my hand and confinscates my cart! I just looked at him and looked up to see another shopper exiting the store. I commented to the man walking out that I must have been trying to shop lift or something. The Walmart employee never said a word to me -- just started rummaging through my bags. I offered my receipt but he just kept on going. Apparently, the sensor on the package of Yu-Go-Gi cards I bought for DS had not been de-activated and that's what he was looking for. I'm sure I turned 25 shades of red while he searched my items. I was so angry when I finally walked out. I thought I might go back and find the manager but knew deep down it wouldn't have made any difference.:(

Man WoW what a diffrence a city make in the Wal-marts. Even our Super Wal-mart is the nice. They build on to make it a SuperWal-mart it was always clean. Now we have two SuperWal-Marts and both is clean and found stuff in them. They is getting ready to build a Super Wal-Mart close where I live at some wetlands and some people where I live is have a fit. I say build on the darn wetlands and have the Super-Wal-Mart it will provide more jobs. I vote for it to be build.

We need more jobs in our city and people is protesting against it they is crazy.

Ugh. I never go to the one near me anymore. No matter when I am there, the lines at checkout are HUGE!!! Whenever I was there, there was maybe two checkout lanes open with 30 people in each lane, and people getting impatient. At the same time, I noticed many other employees working in asiles, laughing and chatting with eachother. None of the other employees made any attempt to open any more checkout lanes, so after awhile I of standing in a crawling line I put my stuff back and left pretty angry.

I get the impression that only the new employees are the ones who do checkout. The other employees who I guess been there long enough are promoted to inventory (or something non-checkout related) and will not "lower" themselves to do checkout - too 'beneath' them. So therefore this store had 50 workers in the asiles and 2 doing checkout to lots of angry people. Great way to run a business.

I won't go there anymore! Yuck.

I refuse to go to Walmart, unless it's an absolute emergency.

The one near me is filthy, clerks are no where to be found, prices are not clearly marked, the items are never properly put away, there's seldom more than3 or 4 registers open with huge lines, and the employees are surly. and the quality in a large portion of their stock is junk

It's a much more pleasant shopping experience for me at Target. It's clean, organized, the selection is better, and the employees are always cheerful and helpful.

Perhaps people are upset about a third Walmart because they kill other small businesses. Aren't most wetlands under some sort of conservation protection? Just curious?

This is sort of off-topic but I'm a little curious tonight. Two years ago at WDW we decided we were bored at around mignight and a trip to Wal-Mart would be good. We went on I-4 West, meaning to go to the closest Wal Mart outside of WDW. Instead we ended up around 30 minutes west in some random Wal Mart that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. Can anyone tell me what town this place was in.

I like Wal-mart during a WDW trip, I want to buy everything because they prices seem so low.

Just curious...

It's amazing how soon there is nothing around just a few miles west of Disney.

Here in the UK we don't have Walmart, just 3 or 4 big chains. Almost all of them are clean, including the restrooms. HOWEVER, our prices are up to 50% more.

I'd be interested to see how much the average shop costs you. Monthly supermarket shopping for a family of 2 adults 2 kids costs me about $160 per week.

I just ignore the state of the place and do the shopping. Rude employees ? I've found it the same in every supermarket I've ever shopped in (worldwide).

I buy my DVD's at the Super Wal-Mart and it's pretty clean most of the time( and a friend of DBF's works there)

I am an loyal shopper of Wal-mart. Have been for years. Even worked there for almost 3 years. The Wal-mart down the street from me is terrible. It is very small, you can barely fit 2 carts down the aisle at the same time. And yes the bathrooms do stink. I tend to go to the SuperCenter about 20 minutes away for most of my shopping. It has only been a SuperCenter for about a year so it is still nice and clean. I find that the prices are alot lower at Wal-mart then at my local grocery stores. And I can get everything there. I don't need to go store hopping.

I've been in nasty and nice Wal*Marts and I think its a reflection on the managment of any one particular store, you're going to have the good and the bad.
Being a manager for WM is very intense and it is sometimes hard to find replacements for the ones they want to replace.
Also being a for-profit company if the store makes money it doesn't get a lot of attention from district/regional managment.
Lastly if the company gets approval to build on wetlands or any where else or get fees waived for the same - blame the planning/zoning people they make those determinations. JMO

BTW- My DH is Wal*Mart managment ;) - so the above may be a biased view

the Wallys here are all wonderful, clean and very nice. The one in Lewiston where we visit occasionally is TERRIBLE filty, old , disgusting and I hate going in there because its so crowded!!

Big difference!!

Hmmm..we go in Wally World quite a bit and I've never had a compaint about the cleanliness or check out lines (There are two Super Walmarts and one Sam's Club in my town)

I absolutely refused to shop at the K-Mart here though. I would drive to another city if I had to use K-Mart; it was just that bad.

As far as attitude or lack of help from employees; I expect to find that anywhere in Montgomery

I agree Alan, I have yet to see a nice Kmart!

I love Target and Shopko ( same type of store) but every Kmart Ive been in has been filthy or crowded or both.

Both the Wallmart and Kmart that are near me are dirty, Kmart is the worst, ive walked in and right back out.

I also prefere Target!!

Just thought I'd add this: After a trip to our filthy, disgusting Wal-Mart, I went to their website and e-mailed them. I told them how dirty and disorganized their store was, and how awful their employees were. A couple days later, the store manager called me. He apologized over and over for the condition of the store and told me they were working hard to fix that, and also trying to get rid of the slug employees and hire some good ones. He said they were having a tough time finding employees that were any less rude than their current ones. We must live in a very rude city.

Well, that was about a year ago and on a recent trip there I found that nothing has changed. In fact, I think it was even worse. The same manager that called me is still there.

I never really thought much about walMart, until, that is, i started to check prices. Couple of years ago, when we were using formula for the kids, WalMart was $1 per can cheaper. Their baby food was $.10 or more cheaper. Now, when i look at things, I would say at least 90% of the items I buy are cheaper. the rest are near the same as Kroger, etc. Milk, cheaper. Chips, cheaper. Frozen veggies, cheaper. etc. etc. etc. I feel for the small business, but, when I can save a fair amount of money by shopping at WalMart, well, sorry small business.

BTW, there is an economic theory that inflation in this country has been kept in check, for a large part, by WalMart, in that their presence in the marketplace is so strong, that their ability to buy in massive bulk amounts, and pass along savings to customers actually has resulted in an inflation rate that is lower than what would have been had their been no Wal Mart. Of course the prices set by WalMart must be meet, or at least attempts to meet them must be made by the competitors.
