Walmart just lost me as a customer (vent)

I agree that this was not handled well by the store (sorry, but not surprised); but I also agree that this was not the best day to decide to do this.
I personally choose not to shop at Walmart as due to their poor treatment of employees; their unethical purchasing methods; they USED to be USA only...NOT anymore; how they plow into small towns and force all the mom & pops out of town; and the poor customer service.
I have a neighbor who swears they are so much cheaper than Target. I have yet to find most things much cheaper on a regular basis. And Target has received many awards for their upstanding treatment of employees, their communities, etc.
No wonder why Walmart's sales are flat & Target have been increasing for the last 5 years...

Guess you've never shopped for milk @ Target before? WHen its $4,99 a gallon ...I shop both WM & Target & find WM prices are consitantly cheaper - I shop @ Target for the things WM doesn't sell, which there are some things.

I live in an area that has a strong mom n pop area of stores that WM hasn't shut down in the 2 years its been nearby.

I don't know much about Target growing for 5 years. but I do see where Warren buffet just upped his stock in WM - so he believes they'll be making him some more money.

So is it just as ridiculous for stores to offer great sales on cell phones so people come out and buy them on the first holiday shopping weekend I'm sorry but your comment is ridiculous, it doesn't matter what day or weekend it is, a customer is a customer and Panna is absolutely correct.

I work for Best Buy and it wouldn't have mattered what day or weekend it was, we would have made sure that the OP's Father's phone was activated before he left the store pre paid or contract. That is what we do regardless of how busy we are! It might have taken a little longer but it would have been done. Our motto in BBY Mobile is "walk out working" and we mean it.

I understand this and of course it happens. However, it is more difficult for me to accept this as an argument against W-M when I watched my father in law struggle with this as a union employee of a "family owned" chain of grocery stores. He would work enough hours just long enough to qualify, then mysteriously his hours would be cut until he no longer qualified.

I personally worked as a contracted employee for a large, non-retail company for a couple of years. I made a great hourly wage but had absolutely no benefits, including vacation, whatsoever - and I worked full time. I eventually was hired by that company and had great benefits, but even that company looked for ways to avoid paying benefits unless absolutely necessary.

It doesn't make it right for W-M to do it, but it doesn't make it right for ANY chain or store (or other business) to do it and I find it difficult (if not impossible) to believe that the only big box retailer to operate this way is W-M. And while I often hear the arguments about how terribly W-M treats employees, my DH has worked at several chains over his 20 years in retail, and I can unequivocally say that W-M is NOT the worst place he has ever worked (it isn't the best either, but we didn't expect it to be - we are just thankful he has a job!).
