Our BF trip was a disaster. We wanted IPhones. Went to Verizon to make sure if we bought at Walmart it would be okay. No problem. Checked at Walmart to verify info, still no problem but they only carried the phones at certain stores. I get that too. This was Tuesday. I thought I had all my bases covered
So BF morning we go to Walmart that carried the phones. We were there at 7am, not a long line, maybe 10 people in front of us. The sale opens up and all the computers shut down. Walmart said it was Verizon getting slammed.
So all of us wait until 10 am and they start taking names, driver's license # and tell everyone to come back to pick up the phone and get it activated.
At the same time my son is doing the same thing in Florida. Same issues, computers are down, give your info and come back.
This is where it got interesting. As we wait and they took all the info from people who then left, a manager comes up and says if they do not activate the phones on BF they will not get the $75 gift card. The phone is $199 at Verizon, $189 at Walmart on BF with a $75 gift card. Those people who left had no clue they would not get the gift card.
We finally made it to the front of the line and were told the offer was not good for people on Verizon's family plan (more than one phone on an account).Son in FL went back that night, spent another 4 hours in line and was told that particular Walmart goes not do Verizon.
Lesson learned. Never try to save a few bucks at Walmart for a phone. Drive across the street, buy your phone at Verizon, get it activated and get a lot of freebies from Verizon in the process. Plus great customer service! BTW Verizon computer system was not down, Walmart's system could not handle the traffic.
