I purchased 2 pair of Dr Dre Beats Solo headphones on Black Friday using Walmart's 1 hour guarantee for a great price. Just got an email this morning stating that due to overwhelming demand those items are no longer available and are being substituted with "an even greater value," the Dr. Dre Mixr headphones. I am annoyed because if I wanted the Mixr headphones that's what I would've purchased in the first place, but I wanted the Solos! I was buying the Beats for my niece and nephew (I know there are better headphones out there...but these are the ones they wanted) and couldn't pass up the $114 price tag.

Now, I have do decide weather to keep the Mixr headphones. The cheapest price I can find now for the Solos is $179...well above what I would spend. Any other people get this email and are annoyed as well?

What???? I am going to check and I will be beyond ticked if this is the case!! I am waiting on two pairs!!!!

Just checked and it says both of mine are processing and due to arrive December 23rd. I will see! I hope it happens since that is cutting it very close!!

Wait!?!?! You bought 2 pairs of Dre Solo Headphones for $114/each and because the demand was so high Walmart cannot fufill the orders Walmart has stepped up and offered you the Dre Mixr Headphones as a replacement.

And now you're mad that Walmart has given you a set of $249 Headphones as a replacement for a set of $114 Headphones?

Walmart has given you $500 worth of merchandise as replacement for $240 worth of Merchandise? Sounds like a GREAT deal to me!

Here's an idea ... take the 2 set's of MIXR ... sell them on Ebay for a HUGE profit and then repurchase your Solos!!!

as for the Solo's - Target has them on sale right now for $139 - http://www.target.com/p/beats-by-dr...orted-colors/-/A-14951502#prodSlot=medium_1_1

I think we get too wrapped up in things to realize we are being offered something BETTER. Plus if you read your 1 hour guarantee info it says Walmart can make substitutions, if you don't like the substitute you can just use your card as a gift card and never pick up your UPGRADED headphones.

Merry Christmas!

Yeah, I'm completely confused by the outrage.

Well the OP said she was annoyed, not outraged. She bought the BEATS because those are the ones she wanted, and she bought them with a guarantee that she would get them, so I can totally understand her being annoyed that she won't be getting them.

Meh ... I guess I don't get it, I would be annoyed if I got something less than what I paid for but in this case the OP is getting something double the value of what was paid.

It would be like going to Disney and paying for a room at an All Star resort and when you get there they say "oh, sorry but All Star is sold out so we went ahead and put you at the Boardwalk"

OP could literally sell both pairs of MIXR headphones for $450 on ebay, turn around and order the SOLO from Target for $280 and pocket nearly $150 ... annoyed or not you have to admit OP came out ahead in the situation.

OP - if you really want the Solo's ... let me know and I will gladly purchase two pairs for you and trade them to you for the MIXR straight up! :thumbsup2

It is like buying a Chevy and being mad when the dealer gives you a Cadillac for the same price. The headphones are from the same brand, just one set is the Chevy and the other is the Cadillac. Again Walmart knew this could be a problem and lets the guest decide if they want the replacement item(in this case an upgrade) or they can just use the 1 hour guarantee card as a gift card. All of this including the substitution possibility was clearly written on the 1 hour card. Know what you are getting into, in this case the one hour guarantee only promised a similar item by Christmas.

Sure the OP could buy them, list them, wait for them to sell and pay her paypal fees, etc etc. To me that makes it even more annoying.

These were supposed to be a Christmas present that apparently the kids specifically wanted. You may be happy with the Mixrs, but that doesn't mean some 14 year old girl who wanted hot pink beats would be :confused3 Totally understandable why the OP is annoyed.

Sorry, I don't get the annoyance. :)

Cars, WDW resorts, you guys are really reaching here for comparisons.
We are talking about a price difference of $50 retail between the 2 headphones. The kids she was buying for wanted Solos, the OP bought them and now won't have them t give those kids. Maybe they would be happy with the Mixrs, but since they didn't ask for those, maybe they won't be.

And FTR, if I was purchasing a Chevy Camaro and the dealer wanted to give me a Cadillac anything, I'd tell them what they could do with their Caddy ;)

Sorry, I don't get the annoyance. :)

And I do, its not really a big deal, I was just pointing out that the OP didn't say she was outraged. There is a difference, you do get that right?

Me too...I would be a bit annoyed also.

I do understand the difference. That's why I said I don't get the annoyance. Because really don't get it.

I just don't get what the OP expects Wal Mart to do. The manufacturer can't make enough of these to meet the demand for Christmas. They don't exist.

Retailers often underestimate demand on Black Friday specials. Sometimes they overestimate demand (a few years ago, EVERYONE was overstocked on Garmin GPSs). Want to make sure that WalMart never does anything like Black Friday one hour rainchecks again - complain about the substitution - because if you hold them to a promise that it is impossible for them to keep, they'll never make it again.

I understand its disappointing for you and your niece and nephew, but there isn't anything that can be done about it at the price point you want at this time of year.

I'd give the kids the substitute headphones and explain that what they wanted was not in stock, but they are welcome to exchange these if they would prefer the other ones.

Is there a big difference between the solos and the mixrs? I have no clue about these headphones but looks-wise they are very similar - are the kids older and they know about the technical differences?

Maybe the kids asked for the Solos because the knew the price of the Mixrs were just too much money to be spent on headphones. Do you know if the kids would be happy to receive them, or are you just assuming they wouldn't want them? Price might have been an issue in what they asked for and they might be thrilled to receive the better ones. I really wouldn't be upset over something like this. Worst case you give them as their gifts and they exchange them for something else.

The way I see it you might be the awesome aunt who not only got what they wanted, but were able to get the better pair. I see it as a win!

:thumbsup2 Agreed!

I think it's awesome, personally! I would be thrilled if they subbed something that was truly double the value of what I had ordered. :hyper:

I purchased 2 pair of Dr Dre Beats Solo headphones on Black Friday using Walmart's 1 hour guarantee for a great price. Just giving any Dr. Dre's puts you in the awesome aunt category. IMHO, it's a winning situation. I would be on the board giving Walmart Kudos (which has never happened in all my experiences with Walmart) for such a positive solution. Certainly not annoyance.

I would give your niece and nephew the Mixr headphones. If they are old enough to know that Dr. Dre earphones are popular, they are old enough to know the difference between solos and mixr. Maybe they were being fiscally responsible and asked for the solos knowing they were cheaper and more apt to receive them. If they aren't happy with the Mixr's they can always return and get something in the $114 value (I suspect they would not be Dr. Dre).
