Walls are up at Hungry Bear...

I'm glad they put up scrims with designs in the upstairs area rather than just plain construction walls. I think that looks a little more friendly than hard walls. The downstairs area, on the other hand, looks kind of dark and cavernous...

It doesn't look horrible upstairs, but I know that I will be less likely to eat there while the scrims are up. Part of the appeal was being next to the calm of the river and watching the Mark Twain and Columbia sail by.

We ate there a couple days ago and it was kind of depressing looking at that and not the river and island. Better than solid color walls, but definitely not a place I would seek out to eat at again while that is the view.

Yea I honestly don't see us eating there until the walls are down and the river is visible again.

Well bears do live in caves. Think of it as hibernating.

Better than looking at the drained riverbed and cranes.

I hope they re-open without those walls. The new path to SWL looks to go right by the downstairs. That was my favorite spot to eat right near the water, in the shade, cool, with the ducks coming over begging for food.The kids really loved it.

That's ok. They already took away the fried green tomato sandwich and bumble bee cupcake, so any reason to go has totally disappeared. I haven't been back since those menu changes, and now it's super unappealing!

Hungry Bear is one of my favorite places to eat, to sit and watch the boats and the ducks. My next trip will not be until 2020, unless everything is done before then.

We use the Hungry Bear area for naptime... so on the positive side, the walls insulate the light and it's darker. Easier to catch a few Zzzz.

That's also one of my favorite spots. Feels like a little get-away from the crowds. The pics with the walls up makes me feel claustrophobic!

That was our favorite CS at DL too, not for the food (which is ok, but sometimes the quality is inconsistent- last time my fries were a soggy mess), but to sit by the water and enjoy the view. We loved sitting there watching the water and the boats go by. We ate there every trip. I will really miss that if it reopens with a path running by it crowded with people or with no water view.

For several months, it has been projected that the river would be cut short, and that there would be serious work done in the area. I am confused as to why people seem surprised that walls are up.

That said, I prefer the scrims to the blue walls we had in DCA. Are they blocking the views from the canoe area yet?

I didn't see where anyone was surprised. They were just commenting on the walls and the feel of the place.
I look forward to hearing about any and all changes in the park as it represents progress to me.

But I would like that. Last time the river was drained, we climbed up Tarzan's treehouse to get a good look at the empty riverbed. While I love Disneyland show, I also like behind-the-scenes peeks into what it looks like when things are being refurbed or built. During the DCA makeover, I would be one of the people squinting through little holes and cracks in the scrims and fences to get peeks of what work had been done since the last time I had visited and what was going on then.
