Wall E and "overweight" storyline?

My DD2 lost interest at times but liked it most of the time. My DS4 loved it but didn't really understand any of the movies messages. Me and DH liked but he liked it more than me. I definitely feel it wasn't my favorite Disney Pixar movie. My DS was so just so happy to see Walle E and have new watch!

My DS 3 loved it! he keeps asking us to take him back.

I did not think that the overweight storyline was bad at all since adults and children are having a weight problem in this country. I did not think it was overboard.

I loved the love story!

On another note, what was with some of the previews. Who gives these people money to make these movies!

My dd4 asked to leave about 30 minutes into it. What I got to see of it I wasn't thrilled. However my opinion may be different if I ever actually got to watch the whole thing so I don't want to say I didn't like it.

DH and I loved the movie; DS 5 and DS6 did as well. We all thought the short film "Presto" was hysterical! Those shorts never disappoint!

I loved the movie. I don't think the messages they were sending were over the top by any means. We went with our dd3 and dniece9 and they both really likd it. The 9 year old definitely got what the movie was about. My daughter just loved Wall-E, Eve and the bug! The second the movie ended she said, "Mommy, I like Wall-E"!

And I agree "Presto" was great!

I have one who just turned 3.5. He liked it, but I think he liked watching the robots and what they do. I am sure he didn't really get it. The movie is only 93 minutes which is good for the younger ones.

My son turned 2 on June 1st and Wall-E was his first movie in the theater. He absolutely loved it!!! He sat in his seat and quietly watched the entire movie! I was apprehensive about bringing him, but he was engrossed in the movie.

In fact, we all loved Wall-E!

I loved the movie. My DD6 liked it but I'm not so sure that she loved it like I did - we took a friend of hers who is not quite 6 and he LOVED it and said it was his fav movie ever. And he's the type of kid who doesn't always sit still for movies!

The whole "green" theme is just a part of life now. I thought they did it well, without being too pushy or over the edge. We as a society HAVE to think greener, so I don't think there is anything wrong with having it as a message. And NO I'm not a tree-hugger, just aware that we have to help our planet.

The same thing goes with obesity - the percentages are growing at an alarming rate, so it's another thing that is part of life. Everything out there is all about making people happy and giving us instant gratification. While I don't think we'd ever get to the point the people did in the movie, we are living in an electronic world and people really don't get the exercise needed to keep us healthy. We will continue to get fatter and fatter if people don't do something.

Aside from that, I LOVED the message of love in the movie. It was weird how you really could feel for this sweet little robot - how does Pixar make something like a robot so darn endearing?! Even the little cockroach was cute.....and I gasped both times he got run over!!! Just thinking that if the bug would die, Wall-E would be TOTALLY, utterly alone....

Pixar & Disney have done it yet again. They made a high-quality film that ALL family members can enjoy and take away a message from. I think any movie that gets us to talk like this should get a lot of recognition!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I was disappointed in the movie. I liked the Wall-e and eve characters, but Wall-e was so much funnier in the advertisements for the movie than in the movie itself. Yes, the coachroach was cute and my DS7 thought he was a grasshopper. The bit about him eating twinkies was totally lost on both my kids. As was many of the "treasures" that Wall-e kept.

We saw the movie on opening day and the theater was packed. When Wall-e first showed up, you could hear a few kids say "Wall-e" - that was cute. However, I can say that their wasn't much laughter in the movie. What I mean, is that the kids in the audience only laughed about 2x during the movie.

To me, the lack of dialogue got "old". Yes, it was amazing that they could tell such a detailed story without much dialogue, but Wall-e learned how to say "directive" and "eve", couldn't he have learned a few more words?

As far as the overweight people, I thought is was a bit much. EACH AND EVERY human in the movie layed around in a flying chair, engaged in their computer screen and nothing else, well, except for eating.

I can't believe how much screen time the trash and overweight people received. How about cutting out part of the movie and adding in a MUCH MUCH longer part about the humans returning to earth to "clean it up" and "fix it". Oh, I guess showing the human race in a more positive light would not have made for a good movie.

Anyway, I went expecting a cute and funny movie (along the lines of Toy Story, Monsters, Nemo). Seemed like what they delivered was a depressing movie. Wall-e and Eve were such cute characters - I expected better. I should have read more about the movie before going to see it.

Completely agree...you pretty much summed up all the reasons nobody in my family liked this one. I think this is the first Disney/Pixar movie that I don't plan to purchase. Although my 4 year old did say "see if you eat too many snacks, you won't be able to walk"

I think what people have to remember, as a few others have pointed out, is that Pixar doesn't strictly make "kid movies", but "family" movies that everyone, including kids, can enjoy.

If a film can get people to think, and not just entertain, it is in a league of its own.

I'm not going to quote your entire post but I must say I agree with all of it. My 7 yr. old (just turned 7 ) loved it, my three yr. old (just turned 3 ) was more interested in playing with the armrest. When we left my 7 yr. old asked us if we could start recycling so that we don't end up living in space drinking all of our food. We had some pretty good conversations that afternoon.
