Walking

Haven’t been on boards for a long time. What is walking a reservation?
It's a method of booking a reservation well in advance of the dates you actually intend to stay and then modifying the reservation over time to include the dates you want. Typically, it is used to secure hard-to-get ressies in popular villas during peak times.

Thank you explaining this. How do people come up with these ideas? This reminds me of parents buying one AP for a child and then using it to get the discounts on meals etc for everyone. Disney stopped charging less for a child’s AP. When families were booking more than one dining reservation for the same time, they changed it to only one and instituted the fee for cancellations.

I can't blame people for trying to get what's best for them, especially when it doesn't blatantly prevent others from getting theirs. You should also see what a throwaway room is used for.

What is that?

Just another way that people game the Disney system. There are also people who hired disabled people in order to skip lines. I wouldn't be surprised if there are people who hire families with infants in order to get extra rider switch passes.
There are individuals in all areas of life who will try to get all they can out of something, at any cost. The morality about each decision is debatable.

The disabled thing isn’t really “skipping” a line although it is more convenient than waiting in line. My sisters son was just diagnosed ASD; we all missed it until last year at age 6. We were able to use his disabled diagnosis to have our place in line held. It basically means that his magic band is swiped so that we come back however minutes the line is at the time of the swipe (so 45 min, we come back in 45 min). You cannot swipe multiple times; it just means you don’t have to wait in line. Which is very necessary with an ASD child.

However, we would gladly trade not having the Disney disabled pass to have a non ASD nephew. It just breaks my heart, for my sisters sake.

I would like to hope people don’t actually hire or fake the disability. Maybe the disability is hidden or subtle (like my sisters child). It would take a very messed up person to fake it or hire a disability to get the disabled pass.

The disabled pass was changed to be more fair due to people literally hiring disabled people. My sister in law used it this past spring and described it to me. Seems fair to me. She can't stand in line so it held her place, but she and my brother went to shows while her place was being held. Fair enough.
Years ago, though, it used to be like an automatic fastpass. Then nasty people started abusing it in the way I described above, so they had to considerably change the rules. There are always a few out there looking for any little flaw in the system that they can exploit to their advantage.

Also, let me say that I am happy that Disney tries to find a way to make their parks enjoyable for all. They are expensive, yes, but also a place where anybody with literally almost any disability can be accepted for who they are, and given the accomodations needed to be able to have a good time. 20 years ago, my autistic brother freaked out after the preshow video for tower of terror. There was instantly someone there to lead him out of line and not force him into ride. Probably would've been better if the alternative exit wasn't an elevator...but they had the best intentions at heart.

That’s horrible that people used to do that. Wow. Unbelievable and terrible!!!

Rider switch can be abused easily as it is. I won't explain how here, but I've found mention of it in another forum. In this case I really hope Disney does something about it soon.

Yes I agree. My wife and I unintentally did it a few times this past summer, due to ride closures. We realized how easy it would be to intentionally set up a whole system of abuse where you get 3x the normal amount of fastpasses. I have thoughts on how that can be fixed as well, sort of like the disabled pass, but don't want to go into too much detail both because it is not the purpose of this thread and to not give others ideas how to abuse the system.
With its current flaw, though, I bet there are people who are hiring young mothers and their children just so they can get a few extra fastpasses.
