The question about walking to crossroads mall from DTD has me wondering...

Anywhere else you can get to on foot from WDW? Especially in the sunshine I much prefer a 20 minute stroll to a short taxi ride.

Does anyone else agree?

if you try to walk from someware that dont have a path from it to someware, they dont like it heard of busses stoping and asking folks to get on
Paulh

You can actually walk from the DTD hotels to the Premium outlets!!!
We did it by accident really, we were just out exploring past the crossroads (heaps of shops, places to eat etc in either direction) and kept walking. Took just over an hour but a pleasant walk. Wouldn't want to do it laden with shopping though.

Its too hot to walk.. and what about all them critters!

yes, if we're talking about the summer, it's downright insane to walk....
remember in july the temperature is in the 90's with humidity of 100%...
that's what i imagine are the conditions in hades...certainly not conducive to "strolling"..

however, if you're there during a time of year with weather for human beings, then strolling is nice....
but many places in the area of WDW don't really have paths for walking, so it would seem to me that it's pretty dangerous to be out on foot...

one walk that we enjoy: when we stay at OKW, we like to walk to DTD - you have to cross a golf course, but there is a dedicated walking path....it's very pleasant....as long as it's not in the summer at high noon...

If you're at Epcot, you could take a stroll across to the Yacht and Beach Clubs, the BoardWalk and the Swan and Dolphin via the International Gateway.

We love to walk from SSR to DTD. In the past we've taken the boat from DTD Marketplace to POR and then strolled around there and then across to POFQ (or vice versa). Next trip we're planning on taking a wander from DTD to OKW.

Walking from the Contemporary to MK makes a nice change from arriving via monorail, ferry or bus (although you'd either have to be staying there or get a taxi or someone else in your party to drop you off). It's also lovely to take a water taxi from MK across to Fort Wilderness - plenty of woodland walks there.

The humidity is incredibly draining, much more than a nice sunny day elsewhere would be, so personally I wouldn't want to be walking too far. Also there isn't always a pavement or safe places to cross the road so it can be a little hairy to walk anywhere other than International Drive or certain parts of Lake Buena Vista (like Hotel Plaza Boulevard) I would also try not to walk in grass or too close to bushes/plants as that is where you're more likely to encounter nasty insects. I do a lot of walking in this country including hiking but most of the US just isn't geared for pedestrians in the same way the UK is.

Cool, thanks for all the ideas - I'll be going in september so weather shouldn't be too hot for me. I spent a month trekking through the Amazon rainforest in summer - so I'm able to cope with crazy humidity.

I think I might opt for POFQ just so DTD is a nice walk/boat away for our quieter days.

the reference to fort wilderness reminded me - when we stayed at the wilderness lodge, we walked from there to fort wilderness....you walk on a path through the woods and it was very nice...we felt worlds away from disney.....very pleasant...even in the summer...
