Walking with groceries??

We're staying at the HoJo and saw the thread that mentioned you can pre-order groceries and have them delivered to your room which we may still do, but I have a feeling my parents will want to physically go there themselves to check out food options. I'm just wondering if it's reasonable to be able to walk to Food4Less and carry groceries back?? It's not like we'd be carting a pile back, just breakfast items and snack items. I've looked it up on google maps and it seems kind of far to do that but I've also learned that on the map, it looks like a far walk but found when actually walking, it's not so bad. Anyone know what a taxi would cost or maybe the hojo's shuttle does this?? I did see the 7-Eleven just south of DL as an option too but I'm sure it's more expensive and not much for selection, might help in a pinch though. TIA

The walk is just slightly over 2 miles each way. Hojo's doesn't have a shuttle, but relies on ART. ART doesn't go that far down Katella. If you are going to opt to spend the extra money on a taxi, 7/11 will probably work out to the same price. Or the Hojo's mini store.

That is a long walk. I'd recommend walking down to the 7/11 (and the adjacent ABC Market) and if they don't have what you need then take the OCTA #50 bus westbound from there - the bus stop is right in front of the 7/11. It's $1.50 each way, exact change, or you can get a one day pass for $4 if you plan on further adventures.

If they decide to take a taxi from Hojo's, I'd recommend the Von's at Lincoln and Anaheim Blvd, which is closer and a much higher quality store. Or the Walmart at Euclid and I-5.

HOJO has a mini-mart that is very well stocked and the prices are quite reasonable.
You might want to check in there to see if they have what you are looking for before you make the trek elsewhere.

I second the OCTA bus idea...that's what I do when I need to go to the grocery store when staying at the DLR. It saves time & is way cheaper than taking a cab. Plus, there's a much better (and more resonably priced) selection of groceries that way.

Thanks for the responses! I forgot all about Von's (we have the sister ones called Safeway up here in Canada) and I didn't even know there was a mini-mart at the hotel so maybe it'll be easier than I thought! Thanks for all the info everyone!

ART is a trolley servicing the immediate resort area only. OCTA is the county public bus.

ART is Anaheim Resort Transit, designed to get people to DLR from their hotels, but some of the routes also venture off to other places, like route 15 going to the Amtrak station, Angel Stadium, and The Block: http://www.rideart.org/route-map

If you like Target Stores, there are two locations in Garden Grove, which is right next to Anaheim. A Taxi, ART or OCTA or getting a ride from someone are the best ways to arrive there. Walking would take a long time, and if carrying bags, even longer. Now that is not to say that it is impossible, because it is not to walk there. Anyway, Target carries a reasonably good selection of groceries, including fresh produce and vegetables, and at a very good price.

We walked from Hojos to the Food4Less on Katella, but I don't think that I would have liked to do it if we had heaps of groceries. I think it is too far.

I went to a Target that was just down Harbor from the Emabssy Suites South (where I stayed). So maybe 1 1/2 miles from HOJO's. I am pretty sure you could ride a ART bus close to there. I know ART will get you to Emabssy Suites south, and I know there is one that goes just a little bit more south on Harbor. I bought food there.

The 7-11 on Katella has a pretty good selection of foods - lots of fresh fruit, sodas, cereal, eggs, milk, bread, juice, fresh donuts, etc. I love their coffee, and the prices sure beat Starbuck's. There's also a Mexican supermarket on Ball and Anaheim Blvd, about 2 blocks up from Harbor. It is crazy busy, but they had lots of breakfast and lunch-type foods, and everyone was very helpful.

Thank you so much for all the info everyone!! I forgot your Target stores have groceries and the ART websites are hugely helpful!!! I actually feel comfortable now trying to get around without using a taxi.
