Are any hotels other than the three park resorts in walking distance of IOA? We are looking at the Fairfield Inn and Suites, but I might be convinced to stay closer if we could walk. (Without playing the exorbitant prices for the resorts. I'm sure they're lovely, but we won't be there long enough to actually enjoy them.)

people that stay at the Double Tree say it is a reasonable walk.
maybe 10 -15 minutes tops.

I checked the prices for Double tree right outside the parks for 1 night before our May stay and It was only $10 cheaper than RPR. So I added 1 extra night to our RPR stay.

How far of a walk from the Sheraton? Is it a fairly crazy road to walk on?

I don't know exactly how far it is or how they measure it when they say it is within 1 mile. It seems to me like a half mile from the moving walkways terminus prior to the parking garages to the lighthouse at IOA entrance! I would say fairly that we strolled slowly and it took 10 to 20 minutes to the green-roofed elevated walkways and maybe a total of 20 to 30 minutes from IOA turnstiles to the front door of the Four Points by Sheraton. It was not at all a crazy walk. We never crossed a major intersection! We walked out the door, turned right and went a half-block, turned right at the stoplight and crossed the I-4 onramp turning lane at a protected crosswalk. Crossed over I-4 on a bridge and crossed the I-4 offramp at a protected crosswalk. At that point you can see your destination. Crossed at another protected crosswalk and then the only unprotected crossing as I recall was where taxis pull in to drop off. Then you just go upstairs to the elevated crosswalk, get through the bag check and in minutes you are crossing City Walk. It was very easy, convenient and felt very safe. The hotel itself was quiet, clean and roomy. We were very pleased with our stay.

Actually, here is a link to the map from the hotel's website. You can use aerial view and get in close and see exactly what the walk is like as well as see the distances.
