I have another quick question about DLR. My kids and I are staying at the Fairfield Inn, and from what I understand we should be able to walk to/from the parks each day. I was discussing our trip with my family and one of my relatives said we should go back to our room before dark each night if we're walking because the area isn't safe. From everything I've read here and other places I wouldn't think this would be necessary, but now I'm a little concerned. We want to see WOC and Fantasmic and enjoy some time in the parks at night. I have a feeling his information might not be accurate since he hasn't been to Disneyland in about 20 years! I'm just wondering if anyone can ease my fears a bit. I am always very cautious (married to a cop ) so do I need to do anything beyond using common sense? Thanks for the help!

Your relative is mis informed.

Nothing to worry about.

If your kids are young, you should walk back & forth 4 times each day (assuming you take a mid day break). On every single 8 minute walk (4 times a day) from the Fairfield, you'll be surrounded by other families wearing Mickey Ears with big grins on their faces...on their way back to their hotel (you can throw a rock & hit 6 of them from the McDs in front of the Fairfield).

& DO use McDs for ice cream & apple pie treats on the way back to your room at night.....& for B'fast items to munch on while you're waiting at the turnstiles in the morning.

:)

Agreed with the other responder. I have walked back and forth from the parks to further hotels (Hilton and Marriott) well past midnight and have never so much as had the slightest feeling of it being unsafe. The area is very clean, populated, well lit and nice. There is no need to go back to the hotel early out of concern for your safety.

Thank you so much! I had a feeling that was probably the case, but this my first vacation without my husband and I just wanted to make sure. :)

20-30 years ago I would say the area was not that safe. Today is different and quite safe. Your relatives' info is outdated.

My sister and I walked it alone of times and never felt unsafe. You'll be fine! Have fun!

I traveled solo with my kids and stayed at the Hojo (next door to Fairfield) and never had any problems walking to/from the hotel at any hour.

there are SO many other disneylanders walking with you that it's pretty safe. And the walk is so short .. nothing to worry about. We have stayed at the Fairfield a couple of times and the walk was a piece of cake! I have to say I am not a fan of walking too far in the opposite direction though... the
7eleven has some interesting people out and about at night. I have no problem with walking towards the Fairfield however. Have a great trip!

I went to DL alone several years back and I felt safer walking back and forth to Disney than I felt in my hotel room.

We walked back and forth to Hojos many times with our children, and always felt safe.

It is 11 and we just returned to our room at HoJo's and since Saturday have not encountered any problems. Of corse, we are a party of 10, 4 males and 6 females and our group ranges from 8 to 80, so the number may have played into that. On two nights there has been the same guy immediately outside the Disney gate before you cross the street asking for money, but we have just ignored him and have not had a problem. I guess that sounds a little harsh saying we ignored him, and I hate that it sounds that way, but.....

Anyway, I think you will be safe. Just keep the kids close and if someone should approach you, which is unlikely, you will be fine.
