I walked it in 2008 and again in 2009. My kids jogged it and were only 10 min ahead of me across the finish line. We were in different corrals this year so they were 12 min ahead of me.
I worked very hard this year doing a log of miles, at least 4-5 times a week. Between 15-20 racewalking miles a week. Lost lots of belly fat and built up a good endurance. When the race was done this year, I felt better than last year and better than my kids, I'm 54 and their 27 and 30.
Not sure about your pace, check out mapmyrun.com and find your route then work on speed/endurance.
Windwalker on this board will find you and make comments to help you out. He also has his own blog about racewalking...

You legs will be strong, your butt will be hard and it is a lot of hard work to racewalk. I think good form at times is harder than running it.
