CAn you walk from SSR to the "RAinforest Cafe side" of DTD directly or do you have to walk all the way through...meaning the path from SSR goes through the west side of dtd first.

There are two paths from SSR to DTD. One to the west side, and one to the marketplace. It comes out right at the resort bus stop, very close to the Rain Forest Cafe. It takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes to walk depending on which building you are in (maybe a few minutes longer if you are walking with young children). It is a lovely walk. Especially in the evening when the lights are reflecting off the water!

As to your second question. SSR does not have water craft rental, but the marina at DTD does. The dock is near Captain Jack's.

Have fun! :goodvibes

Path from Congress Park section SSR to DTD - Rainforest Cafe takes approx 5-10 mins depending on you walking pace and you do not go through the West side first. If you were in the Grandstand section then you would probably go through the Westside. No boat rentals at SSR but are available at DTD.

It's 0.35 mile from the overlook by the pool at Congress Park to the entrance at DD (Just past the bus stops). Reference the yellow line.

You can probably judge distances from other areas

The east walk to DTD is one of my biggest dissapointments with SSR. You need to go all the way out to the busy roadway... which is anything but magical.

They really need to put a footbridge over the narrow part of the lake to bring you directly over to DTD (near rainforest cafe). It would make the walk much nicer IMHO.

One of the things we most enjoy about staying at SSR is our nightly walk to DTD. We don't mind the roadway for the short time you are on it, but would always welcome a magical bridge to DTD. :goodvibes Anything to make it easier would be okay with us!

We've always stayed in Congress Park and it takes about 10 minutes to get to Rain Forest Cafe.

Enjoy!

While I wouldn't call it a "disappointment" in SSR it would be nice to have a "short cut" bridge to DTD.

ita::yes:: we especially enjoyed the footpath off to the side (no lighting, so do not use after dark). we saw lots of bunnies, geckos, a few small snakes (btw, a rather long hose laying near one had us 'concerned for a moment :scared1: lol), & the resident eagle. love walking along the water in the evening, quietly chatting, & listening to the nighttime noises too.
it's such a beautiful resort :goodvibes

I'm really looking forward to walking to DTD next week but this talk of SMALL snakes in this and other threads is giving me the willies a little bit! What's the etiquette for these snakes? Do we run past them, just avoid them as if they aren't snakes... I have held large constrictors and such but the idea of a snake on a pathway I'm walking for sake of enjoyment just weirds me out! Thanks for any help with what to do or just how to ease my nerves!

They are far more afraid of you then you are of them. Only place I'd worry about snakes is the "nature path" off the main DTD walkway (the one from Congress Park to Marketplace). That isn't lighted and so is closed after dark. It has a very rustic feel to it so I expect one could accidentally step on something they wouldn't want to.

As for the size of snakes, the one I saw at EPCOT the other night was barely the size of a toy rubber worm. Icky but harmless. I probably woulda run over the thing and killed it unawares if the crowd hadn't gathered and warned me.

These aren't rattlers. You can easily outrun it just by taking a step. More than likely, you'd spot one, stop dead in your tracks and it would slither back into the bushes to get to safety. Assuming you waited long enough for it to get back there.

Toy rubber worms sound better :lmao: ! I'm gonna have to fib and tell mom that's what they are if we see them then. Thanks for the info though. I had read about the little creature slithering through EPCOT in your TR but when I heard about snakes again and them being on the trails I'm so eager to take, I got a little worried.

Thanks!
