Walking/Running events at Disney Sep 28-Oct 12 (or thereabouts...)

So.
I'm a new runner, only started running May 2010 (yay, Running Room clinics!) and now have a Half Marathon, and a couple 5Ks under my belt
(And I'm semi-old! late 40's!)

Planning on the Tely Ten (St. John's NL 10 mile road race in July),
and also have trip to Disney for dates as above.

Want to run at Disney, but ooh, the temps and the humidity!
Seems to me there'll be 2 separate running events at that time:
5k Hallowe'en Fun Run (no medal, no timing) & the Wine & Dine Marathon (that I don't think has a 5k component)
Was planning on the 5k for the Halloween fun run, but somehow that lacks appeal....(think I want the shiny bling of a medal!). :cool1:

Looking for input on doing the 5k as opposed to the Wine & Dine (assuming that'll be offered as a Half, not just as a full Marathon?)......heck! Looking to see who else out there is a new runner, heading to Disney at the same time, and how you rationalize which run you'll do.

~~~~ I'm awed at the sheer fact that I can actually run! for more than 5 seconds!
I am going to transfer this thread to the Events side of WISH where I'm sure you will get some responses from participants there.
I may be a little confused but I think you are speaking of the Mickey's Halloween 5k and the Wine and Dine. These are both held in conjunction with one another and actually on the same day in 2010.
The Mickey 5k is actually a really cool event. It starts at the Ticket and Transportation Center and follows the road to the Magic Kingdom. It circles through the MK and then finishes again at the TTC. There is a medallion or a rubbery plastic medal given with the 5k, but you are correct, no official timing. The park is decorated in it's Halloween best and the park is rather eerie as no spectators at all are in the park, only enough cast members to keep everyone on course.
THe Wine and Dine is a half mary. it runs at night and I would expect to see revisions from the 2010 version of the event. speaking of the 2010 event, it was not a bad run in principal but had a few inaugural bugs that I am sure Disney will repair. the course runs from WWoS to the AK and then abck almost to the WWoS again and then u-turns for the longest tour of DHS I have every been on. The run ends in the International gate area of Epcot. Runners move through the finisher's area and end up in Epcot near England.
It is a night race so expect temps to be a little cooler, but the humidity to be higher. Disney property is generally well lit, but AK is not a night park so temporary lighting was brought in for the event. The park was just a hair close to the start so it was really crowded.
I am sure that many of the issues that occurred will be corrected in round two.
As far as temps go, you need to expect to run with temperatures in the mid 70F range and a high humidity. Since the 5k is early and the half after dark, the sun is not much of a factor in either event.
Hope this helps
Thanks Tiger Lily!
and Thanks Cewait!
All input is helpful.
I was just planning on the 5k at first, seeing as I wouldn't have to be so careful in the days leading up to and following the event with respect to nutrition, and other activity.... I'm concerned as to whether I'd be pushing it by doing a Half plus still Disney (which is not just a walk in the park :laughing: More like a walking marathon day in day out! lol!)
But, there's a siren call to the Half Marathon, not to mention the little official shiny whatsit. Still have to try to figure a good enough reason not to do the Half (there has to be a Disney Half in my lifetime!)
