hi folks! this question is for anyone who is familiar with BOTH WDW and DLR.
i keep hearing everything at DLR is much more compact, so i'm trying to get an idea of just how much closer everything is for our trip next month (we're WDW vets and DLR first timers.)

The question is -- if you want to walk from the farthest point of DL (say, toon town) to the farthest point of DCA (say, California Screamin').. would you compare that trek to walking from the entrance of Epcot to the far end of the lagoon? shorter? longer?

sorry if the question is odd, i just want to have realistic expectations of how long it will take to get from ride to ride/park hop/etc..

thanks !!!

I'd say from Toontown to California Screamin, it'd probably take less than 10 minutes. About 5 minutes to walk from Toontown to the front gate, a minute to go from 1 gate to the other, and a couple minutes to reach California Screamin. I don't know how that translates to Epcot, but hopefully you get the idea that the parks are close to each other and very easy to walk through.

I would say that distance you listed feels like walking from EE to the front enterance the long way around. In Animal Kingdom.

DisneyJade, you will love how close the parks at DLR are!

I'm not a huge Epcot fan so I'm not familiar with the amount of time the trek would take from the front gates to the end of the lagoon. As for hopping at DLR I can tell you that my family will hop when we're done at one park, or to get away from the crowds maybe once a day. We wouldn't hop multiple times between the parks in a single day.

I've been to both & would say that walking from ToonTown - to the front of DL - across the 100 yard separation - into DCA & to the back of DCA at CA Screamin......would be similar to walking from Italy to the front of Epcot.

A couple of other "walking" observations:

- the walk from our room at the Fairfield & our room at the PP. (or Hojo or others) to the Front Gate of DL (& DCA) was about the same as the walk from OUR ROOM at Port Orleans Riverside TO THE BUS STOP at POR.

- no bus ride.

- no 10 min. walk from the bus "dump" to the front gate.

- no humidity.

- no security check when bouncing from DL to DCA (or back)

- & DTD is NEXT DOOR to the Front Gates of both parks.

WDW is different & has many things going for it, but the above is one reason why DLR works much better for my family.

Have fun. :thumbsup2

you can use www.gmap-pedometer.com and map both distances.

just find the parks on that site, and then start connecting dots to form a path.

its quite accurate also. I use it to map out running trails.

I'd say shorter, but if you're a visual person you could go to mapquest and look at the aerial view of both parks. I like to look at the aerial view of DL from time to time for something to do while I'm waiting the interminable amount of time until my trip in September... :rolleyes1

Yeah you will love how the Disneyland park is so compact, its like the magic of disney encapulates you. Its incredible.

Yeah I have to agree with the others. From Toontown to DCA Screamin you are looking at about a 10-15 minute walk. Its not too bad, the only thing you will have to really wait for most likely is the lineups to get into each park, but the lineups go fast. So yeah its pretty much smooth sailing.

You can leave either park and DTD about 200 feet beside you. Its not like at WDW I heard its like a 5 min walk or something like that to DTD, but at the DLR everything is right at your finger tips.

The proximity to everything is wonderful! We happily go back and forth from DL to CA to use fastpasses or catch entertainment in one park or the other. You will also be amazed at the difference in climate...and no bugs.

Went to WDW for the first time last year and was astounded at the size of the place. being a Californian I go to DLR frequently and thought it was big. Now it is a postage stamp in comparison. Walking is never a problem at DLR. You'll find it easy to get around.

Did any techie types map it out. I am curious what the actual distance comparison is. :teacher:

I did. :surfweb: (What a cool program, btw.)

From the ToonTown underpass entrance to California Screamin' is roughly .83 miles. Which is just about the same distance as walking from the Epcot entrance to the front of American Adventure (via Mexico, Norway, China, etc.)

i got similar results... .83 miles from one end of epcot to the other.. and .9 from roger rabbit spin to california screamin'
that IS a cool program. i love google.

Cool...thanks guys. :thumbsup2

So basically 1 mile from the VERY back of DL to the VERY back of DCA.

Now we need to calculate how much more whipped you would be walking .85 miles in 90 degree, 90% humidity.....vrs walking 1 mile in 85 degree 20% humidity. :)

And not only is the walking easier here, but the rides are better here!

I'm sorry, it's gonna take you longer than that to walk from TT to the other end of DCA. Expect about 20 mins. I bet it's about a mile if you checked it. If the park is not crowded and you walk quickly I guess you could make it in 15.

Can you hop back and forth all day? Yes but wear good shoes

To me that felt longer - and even though the park is a bit smaller and everything is so close together we walked at least the same amount at DLR as we do in WDW - that is mostly since everything is so close you have to walk - no sitting on a bus to get to DtD or riding on the monorail to get to EPCOT, etc. Our feet we killing us more after our 5 days at DLR then our last trip of 7 days to WDW. . .

I think because things felt closer we walked more too - i.e. go get a FP at BTMRR and then go get one for Screamin' and back to DL to ride whatever. . .

last month I wore a pedomiter I walked 10 miles in DL and DCA on a Saturday, and that was stoping to watch a couple of shows.

However the one time I was in WDW I wore blisters on the bottoms of my feet with all the walking I did.
