Walking Problems

My parents are going to WDW with my brother and his family (their first time) in October. Sometimes, my dad does okay walking although he's not too fast. But every once in awhile, his arthritis or gout acts up and he can barely get around. I was suggesting that my mom get a doctor's note for my dad in case he's having problems during the trip. Then he could get a wheelchair, etc. He may not need it, and I know he doesnt' really want to, but with his walking being unpredictable, I thought they should also prepare for the worst. Is this good advice? I'm really unfamilar with what needs to be done. I know he wouldn't want to take advantage of anything or even want a wheelchair, but I'd hate to see a problem ruin their trip. I think he's planning on driving, too. Any suggestions or advice in case he's having trouble moving around during that time? Should he get a Dr.'s note? Thanks!

You don't need to get a doctors not to get a wheelchair at WDW. You just have to go up to the area and ask. I forget the price...like $10.00 a day.

You can also get a motorized scooter that would give him a little more freedom and he would be able to get around himself. They are about $30 a day.

::yes::
Agree, you don't need a doctor's note to rent a wheelchair.

If you check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the board, you will find information about the various ways to get a wheelchair or ECV (power mobility scooter).

I recomend the ecv even though it is $35 a day because it will give him extra freedom. My BF constantly whines about putting me in the regular chair because he has control issues. That is a whole other thread though.
