looking for alittle adventure on our upcoming stay at OKW.Anyone have directions for this walking path???I thought I some them here some time ago...

thanks in advance

I believe Caskbill had it mapped out on his GPS gizmo...directions and distances.

No search now, so I can't find the thread.

If he doesn't reply, you might send him a Private Message requesting the information.

The walking/jogging path is behind unit 55, simply turn to the left, it takes you past the Tree House Villas (closed now), the Disney Inst. to House of Blues in DTD. I walk this path every trip in the mornings, takes about 15 minutes each way. Nice to walk during day light hours but not after dark, no lighting most of the way!

The path that OKW91 describes is closed because of construction. You can however stay on the same of the water as you start on, keeping the water on your left, and walk down to the West Side of DD. It is a great walk. If you want to go to DD just walk throught he West Side and Pleasure Island. It is about a 1 1/2 walk, really nice. The walk is closed because they are constructing the new DVC Saratoga, you will see the bridge over the water is closed, just keep walking like I said before with the water on your left.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was just going to say the same thing. We usually stay on the right side of the water way and come out behind CdS.

Since you don't have to walk thru DI- (you'll just walk past it as OKW91 mentions), the OKW to DD is completely open. All construction is on the opposite side of Trumbo Canal where the Townhouse Villas used to be located.

You will walk on a paved walkway located bewteen the canal and the golf course. If you wish to walk thru DI, you can still access that area by crossing the golf cart bridge. The SSR construction area is closed off, but all other areas are open.

On a side note- the Treehouses are unoccupied at this time. The entrance is blocked off and the villas ar empty. The Fairway Villas are home to college program CM's and the DI bungalow villas are empty- of both human occupants and furnishings.

Doc The golf cart bridge was closed in October the last time I was there. I guess you have been there since I have!!

Actually what OKW91 describes is the correct path as (s)he states you come out by House of Blues at DD (actually West Side). This path does not cross the water.

As stated, following this path you will pass the Treehouse Villas and the old Institute site, but they will be on the other side of the waterway as you walk.

What is now closed is the path that use to go through the Institute. As you follow the main path there are bridges that cross over to the other side. You use to be able to cross over the bridge, walk through the Institute and come out the other side, and enter the DD area over by the Rain Forest Cafe end. This route is the one that is closed due to the construction.

I like to walk and looked forward to taking the walking path on my last trip, but at the last minute I decided to take the boat ride, and am so glad I did! Everyone talks about how great the boatride from POR is, but I wasn't impressed. However, I loved this one-for one thing, the seats were so comfortable.

Words of advice.......bug spray! Lots of mosquitos along this walk, by the canal portion especially. We usually walk early morning or evening and bug spray is a must.

I walked to DD and back every day last week! :)

I wonder how the golfers were able to play without the cart bridge as it's the only place to access the course from the clubhouse. There is a roadway bridge which is closed to traffic, but it doesn't involve the golf course or the walkway at all. There are several walking paths around that bridge.

The cart bridge is open, but you don't need to cross the canal at all to get to DD ...after you've crossed the canal behind building 55!)

I didn't see any golfers using the bridge but it was closed in such away that if you wanted to, you could easily move the obstructions and cross the bridge with a cart. You know now that I think about it I did not see any golfers on the course at all that day, funny, it was a beautiful day. Well anyway the walkway I found to be a very nice walk. I will probably use it every time I come back from DD. I will take the boat down however. The boat ride and the walk back make for a beautiful afternoon.
