In the Passporter Book, I've read about the walking path between the Boardwalk and MGM. Does anyone know how long a walk this is, and would it be quicker than the boat?

We've only walked it twice. I believe it took us at least 15 minutes--and that was just to get to BW-not our room.

I would take the boat. The last thing we usually want to do is walk for 20 minutes after walking for hours in the park.

We walked to MGM from YC a few times when we were there last July.
It is a really nice walk.
It is faster then the boat, because the boat stops at two or three other places.
There is alot of shade along the way and being next to the canal is was cooler .
I think this is one of the best reasons to stay at an Epcot resort!

BTW- It took us about 15 min. from the YC, so It should only take you 10 min. because its about 5 mins. from the YC to the BW. depending on how fast you walk(we did not walk fast, we took our time and even talked on the phone with the grandkids as we walked)

I wouldn't do it if pushing a wheelchair or a heavy stroller. The boat is much more relaxing. However, if you are not tired, have lots of energy or are just out for a stroll, by all means, it is a pleasant walk.

Especially in the morning :)

When you consider the time you have to wait for a boat, it can actually be twice as fast as the boat.

Of course, after fantasmic....it is back to the boat!

I'm obsessive enough to have timed the walk from my room at the BWI to MGM.

Precisely 12 minutes. I do walk like I mean to get there, but no scurrying or running. It's way, way faster than the boat, and in non-summer and non-raining days, very pleasant.

With all due respect to patti: I find that after Fantasmic & early in the morning (when everyone is trying to get to the park) are just the times I appreciate having the walking option. Although I am generally tired & ready for R&R (at night) - the last thing I want to do is wait in line for the boat. The quick 15 or so minute walk back to the resort is worth that little bit of extra pain. Early in the morning I am full of energy & ready to get on with the day so the walk certainly doesn't bother me then - plus I know that 9 times out of 10 I will beat the boat to the gate.

Figure about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile depending upon start point at BWI/BWV

Thank you all so much for your opinions. It sounds like a great option! I think I would rather be walking than waiting in yet another line...

I have made this walk in the June heat last year. I am in pretty good walking shape and didn't feel any stress at all as I walked from MGM to Epcot. My wife thought I was crazy. Of course, I did stop in and have a beer at the ESPN Club. The walk is faster than the boat, but if you are tired from walking at the parks, the boat can be a great break. If you are in a BIG hurry, walk. If you want to relax and enjoy, take the boat. I used to have the Disney theme park commando attitude, but I realized this: they are not going to move WDW, and I can (and will) go back.

The ease of walking to both Epcot and MGM was the selling point for my dh for buying DVC at Boardwalk. He just loves that area. We stayed at Polynesian in August and found the walk to TTC for the Epcot mono quite nice too. The boats are nice but a little on the slow side.

Wouldn't it be cool if they used those parking lot trams that carry tons of people on this walkway to take them to the Epcot resorts? Since we're new BCV owners, that sure would be nice!

I think it took us about 10 minutes in the morning and it was already hot and humid. Great way to walk off breakfast before riding R&R and ToT.

Just be sure that you are walking on the Boardwalk side of the canal. We took the path that goes behind the Swan on the hotel side of the canal and got really lost. Ended up having to cross a major highway and walking along the other side of the highway where there were no sidewalks (and clearly was not intended for pedestrians.) We were thoroughly embarrassed when a Disney Security Van pulled up and told us "GET IN!" He was very nice about it.........said people do it all the time. Then he insisted on driving us straight to the gate at MGM. My DD still jokes about our VIP arrival! :o

In light of all the walking vs. boat options....

I thought there were also buses that went to MGM from BWI. Is this true? How long do they take? I can't imagine that it woudl be very long considering the proximity.
