Walking path frim GF to MK

All we can do is wait and see. If Disney feels that there is a benefit, you might see a walking path.

If you want to speed up the process, have a few people use the existing path, swim or wade across the canal and post it on You Tube. Make sure that you get the sound bite about the fact that there isn't any way to walk to the MK from Disney's flag ship resort. :thumbsup2

:lmao:

These various pathways are very well utilized, and for many, many guests, they are the driver to stay at one particular resort over another. People pay a premium to stay at CR vs WL. Why? For some, it's the monorail. For many others, it's the ability to wake up in the morning and WALK to MK.

That's us as well. We went to Disney on the Platinum Plan, a few years back... unlimited use of just about everything, plans to do an unbelievable amount of activities since all were included in the price. Those pathways were very helpful.

Someone please do this.

Yup, someone please do! But don't show your face or allow yourself to be tracked b/c then you'll probably be banned like those guys that swam to Discovery Island :)

Haha, yes! Someone should totally do this! But good point... don't do it while either wearing a magic band, or carrying a refillable mug... :rotfl:

I would SO love a walking path between GF and MK. It would be incredibly nice to have the option.

Instead of dealing with the canal/bridge issue, here is more of a Disney answer to making a walking path from the Grand Floridian to the MK.

If you don't think my measly pedestrian bridge would get financial support, how the heck would that thing?!? :) UNLESS, they turn it into a fast-pass ride or have a side "chunnel" that turns into a giftshop... :thumbsup2

Also, I think the EWP barges would bottom out and break through the glass, as the Seven Seas Lagoon is pretty shallow :worried:

WEDWDW shows it "maybe" completed. :cool1:

Interesting picture! The above looks like it's floating? That works too.

How about just doing a barrel bridge ala Tom Sawyer Island? :thumbsup2

wonder if that's just a temporary thing to accomodate some sort of infrastructure work? It would seem odd to put it up before the construction of a path ... and it doesn't look all that permanent ... and there's that jump in the middle (I'll bet I could make it on a higher-end scooter :moped: )

HaHa good one. Yea it would require a lot to move apart every eve for the floats. Maybe its just a feasibility test of some kind.

That pictures strikes me as very....strange...

lol what the heck is that?! And is it set in blocks of cement? Or a some kind of floating thing?

The plot thickens!!

Yea pretty sure its some type of barge floating.

Hm when was that pic taken?? Recently? Can you link to the original post from their site? Just for curiosity purposes :)

Something that has not yet been mentioned in this thread .... and the reason you are seeing something a bit more elaborate than a simple pedestrian bridge .... is that this particular canal is not only used to store the water pageant vessels but also serves as access for the Liberty Belle and other vessels on the Rivers of America to go back and forth to the dry docks whenever they are in need of extensive service.

Do you know that to be fact, or is this just speculation? I wondered about this myself, but a few existing bridges already on the canal (pictured below) appear to be "fixed" in place and low to the water, and probably would present the same challenge as the proposed pedestrian bridge would. If boats can, in fact, pass underneath these two bridges, then the boats would need to be pretty low to the water in order to do so (as best I can tell from GoogleMaps and from my recollection). I would suspect that if the service boats that you speak of can, in fact, sneak underneath these two bridges pictured below, then chances are, they would be able to sneak underneath a pedestrian bridge, too. Naturally, this critical feature (bridge height) would have to be taken into consideration and spec'd out for the design of the canal bridge, if in fact it is a legitimate requirement.

FACT

The railroad crosses the canal via an iron-truss swing-bridge.

The roadway crosses over the canal locks via a bascule draw-bridge.

Please reread my post as I never mentioned "Service Boats".

Again - The Liberty Belle and other vessels on the Rivers of America utilize this canal for access to the Marina and Dry Docks which are located north of the Contemporary.

Can't comment on the RR bridge, but I've been on the vehicle one and I'm almost positive that it's a drawbridge.
