Walking Mileage at WDW

Most baffling part of all is that we STILL gain weight on our disney trips! Damn you Mickey Ice Cream bars, Dole Whips, etc. . . .

If you look at the OP's calorie burn it was still fewer than 3000 calories per day. It's too bad Disney doesn't publish nutritional information because I suspect people would be shocked at how many calories they can consume per day at WDW.

I do a lot of amusement park visits each year and have played with the sensitivity settings on my FitBit and phone apps enough to find the right combination so it counts steps but not rides or other non-step movement. I still sometimes get skewed "Active minute" counts and extra flights, but my step count seems to be right on. I'm always running two trackers between the phone and the FitBit Charge and they're usually within 100 steps of each other, and my friends that I'm with also end up with similar results between phones, wrist trackers and clip-on trackers, so I'm pretty confident in their accuracy.

That being said, my average day at most amusement parks is in the 15,000-20,000 range. Some are more and some are less, depending on how spread out the parks are - for instance, Cedar Point is consistently one of the highest, and Dollywood always results in an absurd number of stairs.

On Wednesday we did a "whirlwind" day at Disney - 3 parks in one day, trying to get the major stuff. Thanks to friends, we didn't have to wait for anything, and were able to get the major attractions in Epcot, DHS and MK, plus dinner at BOG. Total for the day was 30,000 steps. I'd say that's definitely on the high end because we were seriously rushing and covered a LOT of ground, but also probably pretty accurate. For my step length, which I have calibrated on my FitBit and is fairly short, that was around 13 miles. So, I'd say those who are doing a normal day, ending up with distances in the 8-10 mile range seems about right.

Don't recall which parks which days but here's my stats from October:
Day 1: 16,543 7.11 miles (Travel day)
Day 2: 16,378 7.04 miles
Day 3: 21,886 9.41 miles
Day 4: 12,281 5.39 miles (Spent part of the day at Verizon, as my Aunt drowned her phone)
Day 5: 17,958 7.72 miles
Day 6: 20,732 8.91 miles
Day 7: 20,356 8.75 miles
Total Steps: 126,134 Total Miles: 54.33
Average Steps per day: 18,019 Average Miles per day: 7.76

Compared to the 3 days I went in Dec, without the whole family.
Day 1: 14,503 6.24 miles (Travel Day)
Day 2: 25,370 10.91 miles
Day 3: 11,743 5.05 miles (Travel day)
Total Steps: 51,616 Total Miles: 22.2
Average Steps per day: 25,808 Average Miles per day: 11.1
Since day 1 and 3 were travel days, I combined them, so my calculations are based off of two days.

I am currently wearing both my fitbit charge HR and my fitbit one (because all too often "charge" is appropriate and it dies in less than 2 days, and I wanted to see how they match up for accuracy). I am 5'1" and weigh 126 lbs so my calorie burn is quite low as are my miles compared to steps.
1/18 travel and HS 16097 steps/6.44 miles/2038 calories
1/19 all 4 parks 28299 steps/11.62 miles/2452 calories
1/20 epcot 13956/5.55 miles/1865 calories
1/21 MK and travel 17542/7 miles/2052 calories

I'm often surprised by just how few calories I burn when regular walking (as opposed to brisk walking or doing the cross trainer). Kind of a bummer, really...but it shows me why an extra Dr Pepper or some chips can have such an effect, especially if I skip the gym!

I knew we walked A LOT when we went to Disney but the first time I wore my pedometer I was shocked to 9 - 12 miles each day! Made me understand better why I was pooped! :)

I have a fit bit and wore it on my last trip. I can't remember the numbers - just that I definitely got way more than 10,000 steps a day in. LOL

I didn't write down my numbers and can't go back that far on the fitbit app, but we were there 12/20-12/27. It was my 8 year old DD's first trip without a stroller, so I purposely did our park plans to minimize walking. Our DHS day was around 6 miles. Other days were between 7.5 and 8.5 miles.

Next time someone does this. check your steps BEFORE you ride a ride and AFTER (especially roller coasters). My fitbit surge now shows the exact up to second steps, but when I tracked on a trip in 2013 on the original fitbit, I felt like the numbers were too high. That maybe somehow on the rides, I was picking up extra steps. Maybe not, there's a TON of walking but one day I got a total of 42769...that seems impossible. upload_2016-1-26_11-26-23.png

I use a free GPS walking app on my phone Map My Walk while at WDW. It allows you to easily pause your walk while you are on rides. I always get very accurate results when I use it on my daily walks at home.

Makes me want to get a Fitbit just for our trip in June!!
We all got Fitbits for Christmas and one of the first things we commented on was how excited we were to take them to Disney World. We have always wondered how much we walk on our trips.

The steps I walk in Disney are not really outside of what I do on a daily basis - but my feet always hurt so much more at Disney. I think it's all the the standing (in line) that kills me, not the actual walking.

Has anyone specifically tracked the step count around Hourglass Lake at POP/AoA or the pathway from DHS to EPCOT? During my April trip I'm challenging myself to get in a 35,000 step day (previous high was 30,000): I'm going to try to do it the day I do the 4-parks-in-1-day-without-a-nap challenge, and these are two things I was thinking of adding... that and dragging myself around MK until I hit it, as that will be my last park for the day.

We did 10 miles yesterday.....but this trip seems to usually be about 8 a day.
Had one day at 5 and that is where it is sitting today, but going back to MK tonight

∆This! I got lambasted for suggesting this exact thing in another thread a while ago. I couldn't agree more about posting nutritional info. It is very helpful & looks can be deceiving.

We average about 25-30k per day but we also choose to walk everywhere if we have the option (usually don't take ferries, use walkways between parks/resorts, etc.). During the last trip we hit 35k because we walked back & forth between Epcot & DHS a few times on top of touring the parks.

I wear my fitbit on my ankle as I find it is way easier than remembering to swing your arms at a slow pace, & also way more accurate that way than if you are a person that talks with your hands or does a lot of things with your hands, or if you're just holding stuff. I've done measured tests & it counts the correct steps. I may look like I have a locator strapped to my ankle but my hands are free. :)

I am usually between 9 and 12 miles per day. The best I did was at a Halloween party last year and logging 16 miles.
